Just clip on to your bike rack and go! Hook the bag to the luggage carrier on your bike and secure the fastener. In this position, the bag cannot be detached from the carrier. Loosening the fastener a couple of turns and pressing the fastener button to the bag will enable you to detach the bag from the luggage carrier. My first pannier, and wasn't sure if I would like it so bought one to try it out.  Promptly bought a second one - solid construction, great looking bag, functional and sturdy.  Highly recommend.  The only thing that is very mildly irritating about the bag is the velcro closure- would probably be better with some type of buckle or strap (the velcro is difficult to seal when the bag is full and the firming inserts are installed).
