Almost perfect 1x8 solution
Pretty awesome with a caveat. I lost 1/2 lb with this conversation on my sons 24” triple specialized hot rock xc which is great. This is the only company that makes a 28t chainring that mounts to a 104. They make 26 also. If you want a single 26 or 28 and have 104 bcd then this really is the only option. If you Need a 30t or larger I’d recommend you buy a separate ring / bash guard and here is why, CHAINLINE the Cnc thickness spaces the chainring too far inward for a perfect chain line, I knew this going in so I installed a 3mm bottom bracket spacer unfortunately the 3mm spacer is not enough to avoid the chain rub against the bash guard in the two smallest gears. And the smallest cog angle is so high it wants to jump up. I feel like the manufacturer could easily improve the design by taking removing a few more millimeters of unnecessary thickness and still have enough thread left for chainring bolts.

Easiest 3x to 1x conversion ever
Update: 09/24/2020 -- 2 years later, this chainring is still running great. I've bought another one for another bike too. This is the ONLY real solution for a "less than 30 tooth" chainring for a 104BCD crankset. Quality is fantastic!I recently begun a quest to convert my son's 26" bike from a 3x8 (24speed) to a 1x8 bike. The main issue is I didn't want him to lose climbing power. In his standard 3x setup his middle chainring (most used) was 32tooth and the small chainring was a 22 tooth. Most 1x setups use a 30 tooth chainring, but with only 8 gears in the rear, I felt dropping from 32tooth to a standard 30 tooth wouldn't be enough to give him the climbing power he needed for legit mountain biking. This product (28tooth version) was PERFECT. To convert from 3x to 1x, I simply unbolted the chainrings, used an allen wrench to remove the crank arm, slipped on this new chainring, used the bolts from the smallest chainring to fasten this to the crank arm, installed A NEW 9 SPEED CHAIN (A MUST), and removed all the front shifter/dereailer hardware and cables. Overall, it shaved a little more than 3 lbs off the bike! My 10 year old son tested it out and he can easily climb some very steep hills. You will lose some top speed, but with mountain biking, that's not a big deal as mostly you're dealing with technical stuff...and well, he's 10. You must use a 9/10 speed chain as the 6/7/8 speed chains are too thick and will rub on the guard. I left all the rear stuff stock...and it's not high end either, but it works great. Also, make sure that your crank is a 104mm bcd. Basically, measure across two of the bolts in the crank arm and they should be 104mm across (approx 4in). Superb product!

Very nice upgrade for single speed setups.
Perfect chainring ratio for my one speed cruiser bike. Beautiful American made workmanship. High quality.

Didn't work for me
Nice idea, Well made in the U.S. But doesn't allow for proper chain line angle. Constant chain rub on the bash guard in the smallest cogs.
