Originally a West End stage production (opening in 1963) and later a successful film (in 1969), Oh What a Lovely War was inspired by the book the Donkeys. A smash hit when it opened, it brought back into favor many of the songs of the First World War era, songs that have continued to be popular music hall songs long after the war. With the show slated to return to the theatre where it was first staged (the Theatre Royal Stratford East) before transferring to the West End, and with the impending centenary of the First World war, these songs are sure to enjoy yet another revival of interest. Not what it claims to be
This is NOT the "original soundtrack" of the Joan Littlewood classic, but a collection of original scratchy recordings of WWI-era songs, some of which show up in the play.

Good CD, but bad listing.
It is a Hallmark (cheap) CD that is worth what I paid for it. BUT as has been stated, the listing is inaccurate.

A recording of the some of the original artists from the period.
A more apt title would be Original Artists from the 1900s.This is Not the sound track from the Film, or stage play but has many of the same songs by the original artists. This CD does have the atmosphere from the period, and for GBP 1.68 worth the effort. If it is the Stage play, film recording you are after Sorry this is not the one.

Confused buyer Movie or Songs
eel I was conned here. I thought I was buying the movie of the same name. It should have been clearly explained it was a collection of songs from the 1st World War not the movie. Have decided to keep it as my friends son says they are okay. But still think this was not explained correctly and separated from the movie list. John Clarke

Misread and misled
Unfortunately I misread Original soundtrack to mean the soundtrack from the film which it definitely isn't.
