Gone With The Wind - 75th Anniversary Edition

NOT POLITICAL- JUST ENJOY!
A Hollywood classic from it's golden years, "Gone with the Wind" is essential viewing. The small, blathering crowd that would tell you that the depiction of the antebellum south is "offensive" are simply bleating a politically skewed victimhood that has no place in enjoying this marvelous film. In fact, proving this is easy: My 11-year old son, as we watched, asked questions about the period of time shown in the film- questions THAT WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ASKED HAD THIS FILM NOT BEEN AVAILABLE! I already had an old copy of this movie, but I admit I bought THIS one because I was afraid that it might "go away". I have a great copy of "Song of the South", as well, and enjoy it immensely- without a single negative thought. Please, get "GWTW" (and "SOTS", for that matter), and simply enjoy. If you've got questions, ask them, and if you have answers, please give them honestly and teach, teach, teach!

Buy it while you can
Buy this film while you can, it's being cancelled and prices are going up while old stock dwindles. Of course they'll reissue an edited version, they have no problem making money from a "racist" film they just need to show the world how woke they are. If you want to watch this classic film in it's original form order it now.

Classic movie, imported disc.
Love the movie but this version of it has it's quirks. For those in the U.S. and order the 75th Anniversary Edition on Blu Ray, you will receive an imported copy that was originally intended for the U.K. and Ireland, as per the packaging. The digital copy? Sorry, only available for those countries and the download code expired on 6/10/2017.

Invalid digital copy.
Now days I buy discs for their digital copy. The movie that Amazon US sold me is a UK version so the digital copy can not be redeemed in the USA besides it expired in 2017.

So glad I didn't pay a full price.
TOOK 5 months for this to arrive! 5 MONTHS! why? They decided to add a warning to the case. A obnoxious red label that directs you to a website that warns you of context of the movie! This is EXCACTLY what I didn't want to see when I bought this earlier this year... It's so annoying to have to see stupid messages like that on a movie just cause a few sensitive idiots said it "Was offensive." It's SO PATHETIC!As soon as I find a copy of the film without such stupid warnings on them I'll toss this copy in the trash and get that one instead. The movie itself is an amazing masterpiece but this modern agenda that has affected so many things over the years is so very tiresome and I'm sick of seeing it.

A brilliant film..
Currently in the process of being banned/edited by degenerate psychotic racists desperate to retroactively erase and corrupt the cruel history of many Black Americans, for no other reason, other than the cover up of historical 'atrocities' perpetrated by the very ancestors of those currently in positions of power in America, and across the world, who are still financially profiting from those 'atrocities'; people with sense see this proverbial 'Book Burning' for the disgusting racist revisionism that it is.

Films do not get any bigger than this
An epic story from the heart of the South. The casting in particular was spot on here as was the incredible score. The cinematography, lighting, camera work, sets, locations and use of colour also play their part in making this such a memorable film. The film uses the American civil war as a back drop for the character development of a young woman who's beautiful, privileged but ultimately superficial, shallow character and world are shattered by the events of the Civil War and what follows. Unlike most of those around her Scarlett cares little for the cause, annoyed only at how rationing and war have robbed her of all the pretty clothes and men she is used to having around. However she if forced to put on a façade and conceal these aspects of her character. Scarlet has plenty of brains and ambition but again is forced to repress this side of her character too, worrying it will appear unattractive to men. She is not always entirely successful though and little flashes of hot anger appear, especially while talking with her father, a proud plain spoken Irishman who knows her only too well for her to bother trying to conceal anything from him. She is in love with Ashley Wilkes a southern who stands out for his level headedness and thoughtful, patient character, unfortunately for Scarlet he shows little interest in her which only deepens her longing for him, instead he marries his cousin. Temptation lies ahead for Scarlet in the form of the good looking Rhett Butler, a man who in many ways represents the polar opposite of the Ashley, Rhett is rude, direct, cynical and enjoys a joke at Scarlet's expense, for all his faults though Rhett see's through Scarlet with a clarity which few others do. Ashley and Rhett also share a mutual trepidation about the South's prospects of winning the civil war.The first act of the film covers the pulsing mood of optimism and overconfidence which sweeps the south at the start of the war, later to be replaced by grim determination, then finally by desperation as the North closes in around them. Scarlet travels from her childhood home and plantation Tara to the city of Atlanta only to find the union forces are closing in around it. The only way out will lie with accepting help from a man she can't stand. In the second act of the film hard times follow and it is only Scarlet's sheer determination and resourcefulness which save her family and home from ruin. Her shrewd and calculating business mind lead her into accepting another unwise marriage proposal in order to ensure Tara is able to meet it's tax requirements. Many softer characters are unable to cope or adapt to the new life, however Scarlet while suffering is able to meet the challenges ahead and at last put her mind to some practical use, she finds she has a talent for making money. The death of her mother and the premature decline in her father's facilities only push her further into the role of taking charge. Unfortunately the experiences of hunger and fear she suffers leave her mentally scarred and from now on she decides she must be hard and ruthless to ensure her future survival. The third act follows the collision of personalities between her and Rhett Butler, a dangerous scoundrel who finally proposes to her and she accepts. Her wealth and influence increases still further although much of society disapproves of a woman being so business minded and driven. Scarlet's relationship with Rhett is a fiery one, Rhett is mad with jealousy over her unrequited love towards Ashley. The colours, textures and overall look of the blu ray is absolutely gorgeous and the film looks incredible for its age. This is one of those films really from the golden age of Hollywood with huge elaborate sets, hundreds of extras and some very long films. As you can see the film favours a rather warm look with lots of orange, brown, red and yellow. I think this fits really well with the setting in the south of the USA. The film had it's share of production problems, as many great films often do but the end result is a masterpiece, one which cannot possibly be remade.

DVD Epic.....
“Lockdown” for Covid-19, opportunity to watch major films. This is a one time epic.Very long, having the theatre like orchestral beginning and ending, and “Intermission”.The characters, other than the leads, very memorable.Humour, drama, grief, war, people behaving honourably and dishonourably, “in character”, “out of character”, self sacrifice, bull headedness, slavery, determination, terrorism, survival.I saw this with an Aunt many years ago in a cinema.....the cinema doing a special showing at the time.It is definitely big screen material!

The ultimate 20th Century movie - Magnificent, moving, unforgettable!
I have seen this movie many times over the years, and never got tired of it. In my opinion it is the best movie ever made, best story, best actors, best directing, best score. A love story on the backdrop of the American Civil War and Reconstruction, high drama from the book of the same title by Margaret Mitchell. So timeless and technically brilliantthat it is hard to believe it was actually made 80 years ago!An unforgettable experience! Best seen on the big screen, of course, but I wanted to own my own quality copy.
