Absolutely WONDERFUL! Read About My First Experience: Prep, Instructions & PHOTOS
This was my first time using Henna Maiden, and I would like to preface this review by saying I am absolutely delighted with this product! It's wonderful. First I'll give a brief background, and then I'll outline what needs to be done to have a successful go at using this product. I've also uploaded pictures.I'm a natural redhead, but now that I'm older I have a fair bit of grey, and need some help. Trying to maintain my natural red color that I grew up with has been expensive, as my hair is long, and my hair was paying for it as well because it grows quickly and the processing dried it out horribly. After a year my hair had the look and texture of hay, which was horrible and beyond remedy. After googling 'red hair' I stumbled upon this product. Now, why I had not heard of this before, I'll never know because I swear it's God's gift to redheads! It's affordable, beautiful, nourishing, it does not fade as other products (from what I've heard), and you can do it right at home - and it's ORGANIC! How can you beat that, right? So I did some research and gave it a go. Here is some pointers for you if you're a first timer like me. After doing this once, I realized very quickly exactly what needed to be done for a "better" or "easier" experience. So here goes...#1. AMOUNT: I have long hair down to my waist, but it's not as thick as it used to be. After reading reviews from others with long hair I decided to mix three packages of Henna Maiden Natural Radiant Red. I followed the directions explicitly. I will tell you that I had far more than needed and actually ended up wasting one third of it. So next time, I'll know better. For those of you with thicker hair, I would suggest the three packages.#2. MIXING: I did not add egg or oil. But I did use tea, which I have heard helps "set" the color or intensify it. I chose Earl Grey because it has a beautiful bergamot scent and a lovely color as well. Henna is an herb which smells very "green". It was not offensive to me at all! I actually found it quite therapeutic. But for those of you who want to cover that, then I suggest using the Earl Grey tea or essential oils. For the three packages I used FOUR CUPS of hot tea. This created a thick paste which resembled something you'd see in your infant's diaper. :)#3. PREP: Here's the key - you need to prep. I purchased the following before I applied the product:- a large inexpensive towel for wrapping my hair afterward - because the color does bleed immediately after.- petroleum jelly to line my hairline and cover my ears- a thick pair of rubber dish gloves (playtex). I do not suggest using the ones in the package as they split easily and are not form fitting.- celophane wrap or cling wrap to wrap your head. Again, I do not suggest using the shower cap in the package as it is quite thin and unstable.- an old t-shirt or two- small hair clips- large combNow that you have your items assembled, remove everything in your bathroom that would possibly be exposed to any potential dripping. Henna will stain on contact. I removed my bathroom rugs and towels, and items from my vanity as well.I began by separating my hair into segments. I know now that is an extremely imporant part of preparation. Because once your gloves are slathered in henna, separating and combing your hair for the next application will be virtually impossible. Therefore, as part of your prep, take the time to separate your hair into small segments all over your head with a small clip. I had washed my hair prior to application, and my hair was damp when I applied the product, which made it much more manageable.Take the petroleum jelly and go around your hairline with a good amount, including lathering your ears.#4. APPLICATION: Now that you have your hair prepped, begin applying the paste at the root working it in like you would a shampoo, and then draw it out gradually through the strands. The strands must be completely covered! Wrap that segment of hair to your head into a 'bun'. Apply a topcoat of paste to that bun. I suggest working at the front first so that hair is removed and you can clearly see what you're doing. Continue this process over the entire area of your head, wrapping the hair around that central 'bun'. When you're finished you should have all your hair secured to the top of your head. Then coat the entire head in henna paste. Once you've coated your head, begin wrapping your head in celophane. Leave no gaps.#5. PROCESSING: I allowed 2.5 hours for my hair. I found that to be more than enough time for the color I wanted. I washed my gloves carefully, donned them again, and began to unwrap my head. I made to sure to have a small trash bag at my side so I could safely discard the used celophane - because it can be a mess. Once my head was unwrapped I rinsed out the product with warm water by kneeling over the rim of my bathtub and dipping my head beneath the spigot. This worked perfectly, keeping all the runoff away from my face and other parts of my body. I allowed a good rinse for about 20 minutes. You'll find that there is a lot of bleeding and it took a long while before the water ran clear. Once it did, I washed my hair of any possible residue and applied a light conditioner. I used the special towel to wrap my hair and as expected, there was a significant amount of 'bleed'. Then I dried my hair.#6. RESULTS: The immediate results were shocking at first, I must say. For a bold personality such as mine, they had the ability to make me shy. :) The color was a bright orange (I used Radiant Natural Red). The color was extraordinarily intense and bright. Yet I held to hope that it would continue to do it's magic and IT DID. The next day I shampooed my hair again and I did not see a lot of color change until the SECOND FULL DAY. I will tell you that henna behaves much differently than conventional chemical dyes. The color turned a beautiful auburn that was absolutely stunning. I will tell you that I've received compliment after compliment from jealous women who were dying to know if that was my natural color. When I told them my secret they were stunned. (See photos) So if you use this product, please know that initially, the color can be extraordinarily bright and look a bit garish and gaudy. But by the second day it was absolutely GORGEOUS - precisely what I wanted. For those of you who are able - do it on a weekend. Process on Friday night and by Monday morning at the office, you'll be a knockout!#7. TEXTURE | MANAGABILITY: As for the texture of my hair, I am AMAZED. I've found that henna actually "healed" my hair. It no longer feels or looks like hay at all. It feels silky soft and it SHINES. Henna does make your hair feel thicker, because it does something to the shaft that is very therapeutic. So if you have fine hair (I have moderate - it is neither coarse or fine) you'll probably be thrilled with this benefit as well. My hair responded very well to a curling iron, and I am tickled pink at the results. Every one of my friends who have seen me since the process give an eye-popping "Wow!!!" with a huge smile. They've said, "I LOVE your hair!!!" And they're amazed when I tell them what I've done.I hope this post if helpful to all of you who intend to use this product. As for me, dipping my head into chemicals every 6-8 weeks for a price tag of $100 + for the rest of my life was no longer an option for me for numerous reasons (cost, chemical exposure, etc.). This procuct is a God-send and I will NEVER go back. I will have you know that I'm well stocked. :) I hope you try it and find the results to be just as GLORIOUS as I did!DON'T FORGET TO VIEW MY PHOTOS! Cheers!

gorgeous lustrous vibrant color
I was hesitant at first, when mixing what looked like baby poop and smelled like hay but after the second application I'm convinced I will forever stay with henna maiden radiant red dye. Not only did it bring my hair to life, its shiny and vibrant and amazingly red. With my highlights, the different shades of red leave a nice variation of colors;). When I wash my hair I don't see all the red dye trickling down the drain like normal dyes do. The color really lasts long and because its 100% chemical free there's no hair loss, no breakage and no fading. I simply love this product. I posted it on Facebook and recommended to all my coworkers. Best stuff around. If you want healthy red hair with no after affects that regular dye leaves...then this stuff is a must try! I've already ordered two more packs. Also....one batch is more then enough for shoulder length hair. I had a ton left over.Buy good gloves from Sally, the gloves that come in the package suck! I added vanilla yogurt and a few drops of (Hollywood beauty) olive oil (not cooking olive oil) and I slept with it on overnight. To remove I used coconut milk conditioner. Afterwards I used a deep conditioning packet from Sally's. Left that on for 3 hours with plastic cap and it left my hair super soft and tangle free and smelling nice. If your hair is dry after henna...that means you still have henna left in your hair so soak it more in the tub a few more times. ;) make sure someone helps you apply as this stuff can be a bit messy. If no help, part hair in 4 sections and slowly work henna onto each section rubbing it evenly into each section. I rinse off in my sink first then shower...again this stuff is messy and smelly so soak your hair for a good 10 min. Hair will be ready to style if all henna is thoroughly rinsed out and deep conditioned:) and stay out of chlorinated pools!

This stuff is awesome!
So, I have used henna before, but this product is way better than the product I used before (I used to get my henna from Lush). This product comes in a cute little package with a picture of a mermaid on it. The henna powder is in its own container within, and the package also includes instructions and a pair of gloves. Don't bother with the plastic gloves, though, I had a devil of a time trying to use them. The henna will stain you skin, so buy some nicer latex gloves (the kind your dentist and doctor wear). Also, use vaseline (or something without mineral oil) to protect the skin around your hairline, that way you don't go to work with orange skin. The quality of this henna is wonderful, and it produces a very rich, vibrant color. My hair looks exactly like how I envisioned it, based on the photo on the product's web page. Potential buyers should note that the color your hair turns out depends on the color you start with. If your hair is dark to start, you're going to get a darker result than the photo. My hair is naturally a dishwater blonde, so the red comes out very nicely. And, if you haven't read up about henna, be prepared for it to have a very strong herbal/damp earth/hay smell. I personally think it's way better than the ammonia smell you get from most boxed dyes. However, the smell of damp earth does stay in your hair for a few days (depending on how often you wash it). It's not so obvious that my coworkers or friends notice, but I can tell that it's still there for a few days.I highly recommend mixing in some olive oil when you henna, because it can dry out your hair. But, it won't give you crazy split ends like boxed dyes. Also, be sure to clean up any henna you spill, because it can also stain your bathroom counter. And, your shower will look pretty strange when you rinse the henna out. Just be sure to rinse your hair out thoroughly, and then rinse the shower itself with lots of water. Also, from personal experience, make sure you get all the henna out of your ears.

so smaller sections are best. My highlights were at the crown
My hair is dark brown with a moderate amount of gray. I highlighted it twice, after a 5 year streak of no chemical treatments. I've used henna before and this is much less smelly than other brands. I have thinner hair that is almost mid back, So I ordered two. I probably could have done one. I had to reapply because I started from the neck up. My arms got tired. It is thick and you want it to go on that way, so smaller sections are best. My highlights were at the crown, so that was the best place to start. I love the red color of this shade. It's fun but not too funky. I'm 30 and have freckles and have warmer skin tone, so this worked well. I was amazed at how well it covered my grays. It actually made the grays look like my old highlights, so it blended well. The dye has held its own for 6 weeks, MUCH better than my stylists red chemical dye. I have yet to spot a split end. I'm just overall floored with the result and how my hair felt after. I'm going to try a shade darker with the auburn, until summer, and I will go back to this color to test its UV wear.

If you're a ginger going white, this is the dye for you
This is my first hair dye. I bought it because my beard has gone almost completely white and I was tired of kids calling me Santa Claus 😂😂 I was a bit nervous about it at first but I decided to get past that and go for it.First I have to say that it's really easy to use. I just put a few tablespoons of the powder into a small bowl, then slowly mix in water until it's a slightly runny paste, then comb it through my beard. Then I wrap it in plastic wrap and wait. I waited 2 hours the first time and my beard came out ultra bright red and shiny. It was brighter than I hoped but not freaky or un-natural looking. After a few days the color tamed down and since then I've had multiple people act shocked when I say I use artificial color. They all have said it looks natural. The second time I used this I only put it in part of my beard and attempted to use some of the white to make it look a bit more my age and it worked amazingly. I waited the full 3 hours as per the instructions but it didn't seem much brighter than the first time. This is a very natural looking ginger color if given the proper time to oxidize and settle in.Onto longevity. It seems to last about 6 or 7 weeks, give or take a week. Probably depends on washing habits. I only use shampoo once a week and I use only conditioner on all other days. Overall I am pleased with this dye and plan to continue using it for the foreseeable future.

So pretty and can be controlled
I love that this henna can be used for a shorter period of time for a lighter red color, or it can be worn longer and used multiple times to create a darker red. I have very fine hair, but this makes my hair feel and look thicker and fuller. I love the way it shines in sunlight, and it makes me feel pretty. I have waist length hair, and it only needs 2 bags. It barely fades so the only touch ups you need is your roots when your hair grows out. I bought 7 bags of this when stock was low because I love it that much.

Good gray coverage
I haven’t used henna in a long time and when I did previously, it was like a toner so this was different. I used ginger on roots (dark blonde/ platinum gray) and strawberry on length, particularly where I had very light blond. I processed on hair for 2 hours, which was longer than necessary for me-thinner, very fine curly level 2-3, just below shoulder hair. I also only needed a fraction of a packet for coverage. Mixed, it was a thick pancake like consistency- not watery. I added essential oil and argon oil to both colors. I added more argon to the strawberry and this did affect the color change and processing- I didn’t not get as much consistency or color change compared to the ginger with less oil. In the future, I will add a little but not much. I suggest a doing a series of moisturizing treatments ahead of this, if you have dryer hair, as this seems to lock in some of your moisture as the color bonds and fills in the hair.I am now ~6 days out and I really love the texture of my hair. It has made it stronger and a bit straighter/less tight curly. I used to color my hair every 8 weeks for years but with gray it was resistant. I gave up for a while and let my hair grow out/recover before trying this. this has covered all the gray very well. It’s not breaking as much and seems like less hair loss in shower.Final note: After processing, I rinsed and used conditioner, but it still felt a little dry and a little tangled. I didn’t wash for 36 hours and then washed and had to condition twice. After two more washes and making sure that I’m leaving conditioner on long enough in shower, spray oil after w/ leave in condition following shower (normal routine before henna), it is more moisturized and less tangly than before I used the henna. It seems to be holding onto moisture. As for color, It seems to take a series of days for the color to settle in, once this happens, you see a more natural color and normal texture. I wished I has only gone with one color, rather than two on two separate areas. But It blends and looks pretty natural.I wished there was a guide to mixing shades. I’d like to be slightly less bright (vivid or brassy) without too brown and dark. I’ve done various reds in the past, so I’m okay (not too shocked) with the color, very rich and natural.
