The most powerful single phase 120V inverter generator available?
I am extremely impressed with this generator. I bought it for use with my 30A Travel Trailer in the hopes that it would run our AC while "off-grid". I love that it has a direct TT30A receptacle that doesn't require any adapters. Not only does it run our AC, but can do so effortlessly, even with the "Eco-throttle" engaged. It is very quiet. In practical use, I cannot tell it from the "red ones". I would need a dB meter to be able to tell you if there was an actual difference (I may borrow one and update this review). With it running outside, right next to the corner of our trailer, I can barely hear it running when I step inside, and if the AC kicks in, it actually makes it impossible to hear the genny at all, because the fan / compressor noise from the AC unit exceeds that of the genny humming outside. I had considered a 5500W 240V model that was twice as heavy (on wheels) and actually produces LESS 120V power "per leg" (To get max watts out of a 240V generator, you need to draw from both phases, so 2500W per side. So if you need a lot of 120V single-phase power, this is it! This little beast makes 3000 running watts, with 3500W surge. The red one I am referring to is 1800 running watts, 2200 surge. It costs over 1000 US, and is only 8 lbs lighter, weighing in at 47 lbs vs this one at 55 lbs. I plan to take good care of this little generator, and since I won't be using it commercially I expect it to last me for years. Yes, the red ones have (or at least used to...) an outstanding reliability record. I believe they are beginning to see some competition enter the market...

Outstanding!!!! More quiet than I thought it would be. Definitely worth the purchase. One note: please read the directions and ensure to put oil in prior to starting and the specific oil required.

Specs look great reality is a different story
1 year update: downgrading from two stars to one star. Internal battery for the starter is completely shot, and there’s no way to order a replacement. The pull string broke, which I’m fixing (my Honda generator pull string broke after five years, not one year). I tore the whole thing apart to do a full tune-up and cleaning and noticed the fuel line was cracked and dripping. All in all, I highly do not recommend - best case this might last you a year using it a few times a week. I still have a problem where if it runs dry, it takes hours of waiting until it will restart. —— Carbon monoxide detector trips, even out in the wide open with a breeze and shuts it off randomly. Very difficult to start after it runs dry. Took over half an hour just to get it to start after it ran dry once. It’s not usually that bad but it’s always difficult. If you use the push button start and it doesn’t start about 8 to 10 times, the battery dies. Bluetooth connectivity is very iffy. It could be standing right above it and it won’t connect. But sometimes it works 30 feet away if I hold my phone above my head. Much worse and more inconsistent than Bluetooth on the Honda generators. Eco mode doesn’t really do anything other than cause it to stall as it tries to adjust the power up and down. It’s much more gas hungry than the Honda— I could get the Honda to run for seven or eight hours on a gallon, this one I’m lucky to get four or five. I’ve had it for about 30 days and put about 30 hours on it for this review. I’m not happy with it, but it’s not returnable. I would not choose this one again. They are responsive in the app to inquiries, but I get the impression I did not get a lemon. It just isn’t very high-quality or reliable.

Small size with big power that I can move around with my RV
I am impressed with this invertor generator. Coming from a Predator 11,500 owner (my home back up). I tested this little guy today and it ran my travel trailer (30 amps) perfectly. With A/C on high. What a great machine. Light enough for one person to load. Next I'm going to see just how long one tank will run this set up.

Lots of power for the money
I purchased this generator for work. We usually use Honda 2200 generators but they are expensive and sometimes we need more power than they can produce. I decided to try this one and so far it has worked great. I have taken it to full rated output to see if it could actually put out what it says it can. I was able to pull within 50 watts of rated load so I was very happy with that. It's not as quiet as the Honda but it's not much louder. It only weighs a few pounds more than the Honda too. Make sure to do plenty of break in oil changes. I was changing the oil after every hour of use during break in and the amount of glittery metal in the oil was concerning the first few changes but it clears up about the 4th or 5th oil change. This is not a concern with the Honda. Time will tell how reliable it is but so far I have about 40 hours of run time and it's been great. I would buy again.

What can you not say
I purchased this MXR 3500 2 years ago for our camper for those times we just stop at a rest area and need power. Its light enough I can easily take it in & out of the camper very quiet and fuel-efficient, especially on Eco mode untill we stopped over night in Florida and really wish it could have run the AC the fan just wasn't enough it had performed so well I just purchased a second one and run them parallel and now there's nothing we can't run. I highly recommend these generators you don't need to purchase a high-end Honda to have a quite reliable power source. After two years it still starts on one pull even afternot using it for months on end . I think will be stopping more at rest areas when just pulling over for the night why spend $70-$100 just to sleep comfortably over night they really are that quite and reliable.

Working well at high elevation and high load
I recently did some high elevation and high load testing. Here is the data and analysis. Setup: NGK CR7HS plug and Wen 55201 magnetic dipstick. 5 hrs of break-in with 10W-40 high-mileage (with ZDDP zinc) mineral oil (not synthetic), alternating 1500 and 3000 watt loads for 10 secs working up over an hour to about 90 seconds, with 30 to 45 second cool-downs between each load. Oil changed after every hour, which went from very dark to fairly clean. Then allowed to cool overnight, completing one thermal cycle. (Note this is a "hard" thermal cycling break-in process to seat the rings, based on engine builders using dynamometers to show what actually works. Good ring seating produces more power with less throttle, saving gas, keeping the oil cleaner, reducing wear, and increasing lifespan of the engine.) MXR3500 sitting on “Air Jade Rubber Anti-Vibration Pads” on motorcycle rack at rear of RV 7500 ft elevation, factory jetting for sea level, so power is down about 23% (-3% per 1000 ft of elevation gain), E10 86 octane. (Note higher octane would be pointless in a low compression engine like this, but E0 (ethanol free) would provide a couple percent more power.) 82F in shade, 86F inside RV, roof vents off, 20 dB on dining table with phone mic to rear Roof air conditioner: Coleman Mach 3+ 8333B SERIES (2006 model year), EER of 7.5 for 1800 watt load: very inefficient by modern A/C standards, but there is no efficiency requirement for mobile roof air conditioners. (Note this is a relatively cool RV indoor temperature. As the RV gets into the mid-90s, I have measured loads on the shoreline of 1900 watts. I would guess it would hit 2000+ watts in AZ 110F temps. In 2019 I ran the unit on a campground shoreline when the local weather said 115F, but did not make any load measurements. No shade. I ran it full blast for about 18 hrs per day.) 4p: Hour meter at 7.1 hrs, gen in sun, started easy w/o choke, Eco OFF Loosened ratchet strap around gen, did not seem to make much vibration difference. The pads seem good. Now 40 dB on dining table, so up 20 dB with generator on Hour meter at 7.2 hr, so 6 min warmup done 410p: ActiveStart app connected to soft start unit: Configured unit for a 3000W generator Coleman turned to LOW, middle temp setting on the dial 412p ActiveStart app: started out around 1400W, now pulling 1600W as the compressor pressure rises 51 dB on table, so up another 11 dB with A/C now on. Up 31 dB from ambient now. 417p 1700 watts 423p ActiveStart app: mid 1700s, 15A, very steady at 120 volts, 60 hz (Not sure what the resolution of the ActiveStart soft start device is, but the generator seems steady.) 430p Low 1700s, saw 1785 watts briefly 430p Turned on fridge A/C heating element to add more load. Now around 2050 watts. Sitting on the sofa, I can hear the generator as a slight background rumble “underneath” the roaring air conditioner. This is significantly quieter than the Onan 4000 running under the floor. In 2022, with another phone, I measured the Onan alone at 57 dB, then 68 dB with the same AC on low and the compressor on. So if these numbers are comparable, the MXR3500 on the rack is 17 dB quieter than the Onan and 17 dB quieter than Onan plus A/C. Either way, this is a lot of noise in a small space. Sitting at the table right under the A/C discharge, I have found that Bose 700 headphones on maximum noise cancellation remove almost all generator and A/C noise. So somewhere around 30 dB is eliminated. Expensive but I can do things in comfort for hours. Ear plugs also work and are cheap. Outside 12 ft pointing directly at exhaust: 60 dB 15 ft from front of RV at the entrance to campsite: 44 dB About 50 ft from front of RV = "neighbor noise": 40 dB The MXR3500 definitely has a louder exhaust buzz than Honda EU's. There is probably lots of air induction noise also, because the EU's have a sophisticated "organ pipe" silencer before the air filter. Honda probably spent hundreds of hours perfecting this. But for now the MXR3500 is quite satisfactory for 21% of the cost of an EU3000i. When I am convinced the EU3000i is at a Honda level of perfection in all weather conditions, then I will buy one. Looking at the Spectrum analyzer (Spectroid app), there is a very steady peak at about 50 hertz (we can hear down to around 20 hz). This might be a harmonic created by other frequencies. Then there is another peak around 60 hertz which is probably the inverter. Then there is a constantly churning zone centered around 120 Hz that might be the exhaust and induction noise. 503p Inside temp is now about 83F. A/C has dropped it 3 degrees, but RV is in the sun, and is poorly insulated. Turned off the fridge load. A/C switched to HIGH cool, max cold setting on the dial Now 52 dB so HIGH is not much louder even with the compressor on. It is pulling about 1750 watts, because the inside temp is 3 degrees lower and the A/C already has pressure built up. Starting right away on HIGH is a much higher load, as noted above. 520p all loads off, turn on Eco for cool-down 36 dB on the table. Sitting on the couch, the generator now seems quite loud without the white noise of the A/C unit. 530p Generator off 20 dB on table: quiet background The MXR3500 used about 53 US fluid ounces (0.41 US gallon) over 1.5 hrs. So that is about 0.28 gallons per hour for an average load of maybe 1700 watts. Using an inverter and running at high revs (4850 rpm), it consumed about half the gas of my ancient Onan 4KW. At $3/gallon, that is 85 cents per hour. I should have put on the Kill-A-Watt meter, but let’s guess the MXR3500 made 2500 Watt-Hours of energy (1700 watts * 1.5 hrs). That would be an efficiency of around 50 Watt-hours per ounce of gas (2500 / 53). So if the fuel tank actually holds 4.7 Liters that is 1.24 US gallons. At 0.28 gallons per hour (as calculated above), it should run over 4 hrs. There are rumors of an auxiliary fuel tank from the vendor. The fuel cap is much larger than the Honda EU series, which most 3rd party auxiliary tanks are sold for. So far I like the MXR3500. For a product with a cost at the factory door of perhaps US$150, it is pretty impressive. First I will shoot for 500 hrs. If it can last for 2000 hrs, I calculate it may achieve the same cost per hour of an EU3000i: around 25 to 30 cents per hour, not including fuel of course.

The generator to get when you don't want to spend Honda money for the wattage you need.
I needed a generator for a small off grid cabin to charge up the lithium battery pack and I decided to go with the dual fuel MXR4000GT and it has been great so far. Starts up easily on both gasoline and propane even in cold temperatures. I saw a few people mentioning theirs leaks fuel (user error!) that happens when you fill the tank beyond the red bar at the top of the tank... Due to the unit being compatible with a fuel transfer pump there is an overflow to avoid pressurizing the fuel system. Now the 1.1gallon tank is a bit on the small side and if you are always running it like I am (60-85% load) you will only get 2-3hrs on the fuel tank without the fuel transfer pump addon. But that's why I opted for the dual fuel version so that I can run it on 30lb propane tanks with the same 60-85% load I'm getting around 18hrs per tank. I did the effeciency calculations: 1.1gallons of 91 produced 5.5kwh which is 14.8% effeciency and a 30lb propane tank produced 33.5kwh which is 17.8% effeciency. So definitely better running it on propane. It's also pretty quiet depending on the load with it only getting relatively loud above 2000w. In terms of max power output it will hold 3300w @119v charging batteries on both gasoline or propane at 700ft AMSL pushing even slightly beyond that bogs down the engine before tripping the overload. But as always for longevity continues loads like battery charging should be kept below 85% or ~2700w which this unit does happily. After the 25hr break in period on dyno oil I used amsoil 4 stroke synthetic 10w-30 which made a dramatic difference in cold start performance for those using this unit in cold regions. Overall I'm happy with the unit considering the price and features compared to a 3x as expensive Honda with similar running watts. It comes with a 2 year warranty as well. And weighs just 50lbs so it's easy to move around compared to similar spec generators

Good little unit
**Update** October 2025: have used it now for over 2 years, including winter camping in the snow. It now has 2000 hours of run time on it! Just over a month ago, it ran non stop for 72 hrs at around 2500 watts output in near constant 32°C heat with no issues at all. Fuel consumption under these conditions was approx 0.7 to 0.8 litres per hour. Still performs well, still quiet and responsive when throttling up. Oil changes have not revealed any obvious issues such as dirty oil or metal glitter. Have used only full synthetic oil in the recommended grade since break in was completed. A couple of observations: 1. Ease of starting can vary a lot. Sometimes it starts on first pull, other times it requires many pulls both on choke or off choke with no obvious reason why--except the colder it is, the harder it starts. 2. Actual run time before running dry never came close to advertised. The best it ever did was 8hrs 25min on a FULL tank of premium, on Eco mode, with an intermittent load of only 450 watts. The gas tank is tiny, but that's the trade off for compact size and light weight. I created an auxiliary fuel system which increased run time approximately 5x longer. Very good value. Increasing my overall rating to 4.5 stars. Would definitely buy again. **End of Update** >>Original Review starts here<< I've only run it for a couple of hours so far, breaking it in with conventional oil and changing it twice. Will be putting it to use in a few days, as well as throughout the cold snowy winter doing off grid camping. A couple of issues I discovered right away: the air intake tube from the air filter box to the carb was not actually seated at all into the air box - it was sucking unfiltered air from inside the generator housing. I only discovered this when I took the whole side panel off to check how to clean the air filter. So I installed that intake tube correctly myself and now the air filter will actually do some good. The other small issue is the plastic housing is slightly in the way of getting the spark plug out or in when using the tool provided with the unit (spark plug tool is junk anyway - it stripped its own corners after about the fourth time using it; and i didn't over tighten it). Do yourself a favor and use an actual spark plug socket with an extension on a ratchet. Otherwise, generator is as advertised. Lightweight, compact, and quiet. Power output seems consistent. I tested the voltage with a 1000 watt load on (my shop vac), and it was steady at 123 volts output. It also had no issue throttling up from Eco mode when I turned on the shop vac. This generator will easily run a 14,000 BTU portable AC, plus three small to medium fridge/freezers, and several other small appliances all at the same time. I gave 5 stars to value, in the hope that this unit lasts me many years. Only time will answer that.

Can’t handle any cold weather
Did all the proper set up . Started it up everything ran as it should . Ran it for a hour . Then started plugging stuff in to make it work . All was well . Put it in my truck to use the next day, was -10c over night . Went to use electric start nothing not even a click . Tried pull start nothing . Had spark but no fuel. Suspect the electric fuel shut off was stuck off since the battery was NFG after one night .
