Has anyone used these devices in a real emergency situation? it seems like one has to hit the window in four corners in order to be able to escape.

Many newer cars have Laminated side windows (like the windshield) . Search "escape hammer AAA", and see 30% of cars since 2018 have laminated glass in side windows. Luxury brands > Lexus, Audi, Cadillac etc have been using it for over 10 years. NON OF THESE HAMMERS CAN BREAK LAMINATED GLASS. If you have laminated glass don't waste time trying to break it. Seek another means of escape.

Can it can be mounted inside the car? i currently have one that i keep in the glove box but if my seatbelt is stuck, i'm afraid i could not reach it.

Yes these safety hammers can be mounted using two bolts or some strong double sided tape on the back of the holder that comes with the hammer.

Is this for tempered glass or laminate windows or does it work with both?

It would crack a laminated window but it will not shatter it. You have to cut through laminated windowns they don't just shatter.
