My actual waist is 28" so I bought the XL thinking I was going on the safe side and could wear the skirt lower on my hips. Ha! The skirt will not even close around the smallest part of my waist! It's probably a half inch from closing around me at all, and there is no stretch to the material whatsoever. The XL maaaaaay fit my 4 year old niece. However, the top fits fine and is cute, and I just happen to have a human sized skirt in the same colors that will match, so I can try the cute top with that. The top has plenty of stretch and, though the materials are all really cheap, fairly poorly constructed, and will likely retain the creases forever, that doesn't matter because it's lingerie. It's not like I'll be wearing it for long, or out of the house! The top material is not mesh as it sort of appears in the photo, but a very thin, almost shiny white fabric that is slightly see-through. So yeah, if your waist is 28" or more, there is no size of this skirt that will ever fit you! I'd honestly recommend any adult go with the XL no matter what.
