This is the perfect gift for any child. The stories are true and the illustrations are wonderfully done. I had this book as kid and I have it for my kids and have given it as a gift to all the kids in my family. An absolute must for any kids’ library.

Huge hit with my children. James Herriot masterfully brings to life the joys and whimsy of an English country vet as he goes about his rounds. The stories are very appropriate as read alouds, nothing to gruesome or detailed in the veterinary business, but beautifully detailed about character and life, with the delightful British humor thrown in as well.

I love this book! And I have given copies to friends for their children/ grandchildren. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories are charming and warm. Perfect book for children to enjoy!

The item arrived in good condition. Owning the individual stories in singular books, it is very nice to have these stories in one volume. We read them to our very young children, they themselves read them after they learned to read, and we all still enjoy reading them -- to their children (our grandchildren) and others! I think you'll not regret taking the time to share these stories -- please do so.

Beautiful book with lovely illustrations! Highly recommend adding this to your own personal library. My children and their cousins, ages 2-11, have thoroughly enjoyed this classic and lovely book. It is timeless and well made. I have purchased this book as a gift too and tend to recommend this book whenever given the opportunity from our home collection.

We are fans of the PBS show All Creatures Great and Small, so I was drawn to this for a bedtime read aloud with our child. The child had never watched the show with us but enjoyed these animal stories and the gorgeous artwork on each page. There really are a lot of pictures and each one is beautiful. We all enjoyed the stories and our child frequently looks through it or asks us to read a story from it.

The illustrations are lovely, the stories are wonderful. It is a lovely book and makes a great gift for a young animal-lover. It is at a 4th grade reading level or thereabouts.

One of our younger children’s favorite story books. The pictures are beautifully done and add the perfect touch to Herriot’s wonderful animal stories for children. This one truly is a treasure! We’ve gifted it to nieces and nephews and as baby gifts many times over and will continue to do so in the future!

Lovely stories and illustrations very much being enjoyed by a 3 yr old and a 6 year old.

I havent come across any book as wonderful as this which talks of animals and their stories..and these are not fictions..but true stories penned by the Veterinary doctor practicing in Scotland countryside. The stories are of farm animals like cats and dogs and horse and ship and pig. Each story is narrated very well to depict the character of each animal without any jargon. And what to say about marvelous illustrations of this book. There is not a single page without illustration. Rather the stories are written on illustrated pages. The illustrations very well show the countryside Scotland which seems very similar to rural India of farms and animals. Each page is a vibrant imagery. Both the illustrators have their own different style. The book has a very grand size. You would feel like a photo album..like a memoir someone had made.
