Does the silicon bathtub stopper that comes with this kit really keep the bathtub water in or is there a slow leak?

My package came with 2 of the metal strainers and no silicon drain stopper. Didn't mind since I use the shower. Sorry can't answer.

Does this catch hair and NOT leave me standing in shower water?

Catches all the hair, so between shampoo and conditioner, I pull the ball of hair and put it on a shelf/tub ledge until I finish showering so I don’t end up standing in water. Will fit tub drain hole, but not normal sized shower drain hole.

do you use plumber's putty to put it on?

NO--we just lay it in the drain hole. We use an old fashion stopper to hold water if and when need be for a bath or cleaning.
