I didn't notice any foul smell when I unpacked them but I did detect a slight smell when I put my nose right next to the vines. If you detect an odor I suggest opening them up and letting them air out. I'm going to be using them outside in my Hallowen cemetery to decorate the stone and wrought iron fence that surrounds our front yard. The leaves are small but the veining looks realistic. I plan to add green firefly lights to make them look even better at night. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great look to it. Starts off with a really bad smell but fades quickly *by N***A on April 1, 2022* I’m planning a fairy-themed party for my daughter’s birthday and have been on the lookout for nature-inspired decorations. This ivy looks awesome and is going to work great to enhance table displays and create the right ambience.The ivy came in a zipper-top bag, all held together with bread ties to avoid tangling. I noticed some loose threads in the bag and there is some fraying evident on the edges of the leaves. I don't see any evidence of major shedding now that I have them out and hanging.There was a strong smell upon opening the bag. If you have a strong aversion to chemical smells you may want to shop around a bit more; it was quite unpleasant. On the plus side, I left the strands outside and found the smell had significantly faded in just an hour or so, even if it wasn’t completely gone. I’m glad it didn’t take long, since if I'd had to leave them outside overnight I'd have worried the nocturnal creatures that come to dig up my plants and eat all my succulents during the night may have wanted to take a nibble at these as well. I hung them up on a storage rack inside and now (the next day) I can’t detect any smell, even at extremely close range.For anyone who may not be clear on it, the set includes 12 separate strands of ivy, rather than a single “curtain” of ivy strands. I've included a shot of just a single strand in my photos to show what an individual one looks like. The stems are not wired so you’ll be relying more on draping with these. There aren’t any included loops for hanging, but it catches easily onto hooks and so on while draping.Aside from the smell, my other note is I expected the leaves themselves to be larger, but they’re more like mini-ivy leaves (closeup shot of a few leaves in my hand to give a sense of the size). The product photos included dimensions and referred to a “blade diameter” of 4.5in so I assumed “blade” was referring to the leaves. There is some variation to the size of the leaves but one of the larger leaves I measured had a diameter of 1.75in (I got the same measurement vertically from the base of the leaf to the tip, and horizontally at the widest point). If I’d specifically needed a larger ivy leaf this would have rankled me, but I think the smaller size will work to my advantage since I’ll be able to use them in more places.The strands got tangled together as I tried to pull them apart but I’m not sure if that is an easy thing to avoid, given the shape the stems have to take in order to look more realistic. It wasn’t too difficult to separate them from each other. They seem to be pretty well put together; I only lost one leaf in the process. I don’t know if anyone would be fooled into believing this is real ivy, especially up close, but from a few feet away it really gives a pleasing look. It’s quite cheerful to see them hanging on my storage rack inside. The ease of tangling can also be an advantage since you can create a bit of naturalistic haphazardness in the way these cling together as you play around with them.I appreciate the attention to detail on the back side of the leaves. The printed leaf pattern is repeated at a slightly lighter color than the front which I think gives it a slightly more realistic look, since real ivy is lighter on the back. It seems that the leaves have either been glued or undergone some kind of heating process to bind them to the stems, so the front has a little depressed line running down the middle like a real leaf would as well.
