Protect-A-Bed, Allerzip Mattress Encasement, 11” - 18” Height, Waterproof, Zippered, 6-sided, Queen

Hi! This is a review for the queen sized mattress protector with a depth of 11-18" used on a mattress of 13.5 inch depth. So far this has been a great experience! I washed the cover prior to use, it held up very well from being washed and dried, the stitching looks durable and well sewn. There is a zip which runs along three sides of the mattress cover, over top of the zipper line is a bit of fabric that helps cover the zipper fully which I think was a nice touch, the top area is enclosed. It was a pretty quick installation, no need to tip mattress on the side, just slide it a bit off bed to make getting the top portion onto the mattress a bit easier. As a petite person I was able to install this in 6-7 minutes by myself and fairly easily which was very surprising and pleasant! The texture is surprisingly soft, though not sure I'd sleep on it without a fitted sheet over top as it's soft but still feels synthetic, maybe a bit like a sturdy polyester. I put over the top a blanket top mattress protector fitted sheet then over that my fitted sheet. Having now slept on it last night I felt pretty comfortable, it did feel a little warmer -- like maybe it traps heat a bit more but that could also be in my head (haha) as it's so barely perceptible that it really isn't bothersome and think I'll likely not notice a difference in a week. I don't discern any crinkling sounds like plastic, haven't noticed any air bubbling up inside, overall I really can't tell it's on there except the very slight heat retention but I would say, I prefer my bed sheet being a bit looser, it may respond differently if the mattress protector is super tight in fit and the bed sheet also has similar fit? To my eyes, the bed looks nearly exactly the same as before. I'm not sure if I'd assume this to be completely waterproof but would definitely expect this to repel water well, if I spilled a considerable amount of liquid on here I think I'd take off the mattress protector quickly and check the mattress then let the mattress protector dry fully before placing it on bed again. That said, I was not strictly looking for a 100% waterproof cover as I was something not too plastic sounding and would be a good protection for dust and any possible pests, all of which I have found in this mattress protector so far. I bought two sizes of these Allerzip Smooth Encasements for a Queen bed. A smaller one, 7-12 inches deep, fit perfectly over a 9" boxspring. A larger one, 12-18 inches deep, fit perfectly over a 13" mattress. The fabric stretches, and it fit without sagging - not too tight, but also no extra fabric anywhere, just right. I'm very happy with this product. This was the best I could find among premium encasements that offered bugproof protection, and I shopped a lot, including looking at several competing encasements at Bed Bath & Beyond etc. AllerZip Smooth encasement was easy to install. The fabric is thick and sturdy (much sturdier and tighter weave than the other premium offerings I saw). The fabric is smooth, and it's quiet and sweat-free to sleep on. The quality (thickness, the tightness of the fabric weave and zipper, design of the lock) is much better than a $100+ premium encasement I bought at Sleepy's (that one disintegrated, was hot to sleep on, and did not have protective locks over zippers). I'm especially happy with the tightness and sturdiness of the fabric weave (especially when compared to what was offered for a similar or higher price at BBB). Installation was easy. However, some advice: 1) when installing on boxspring, put some duck tape on the metal corners of the boxspring, to protect the fabric of encasement; (those metal corners can be sharp as knives); 2) if using a metal bed, put some felt pads on the sharp edges of the bed; and 3) AllerZip encasement will trap anything inside - including AIR during installation; therefore, in order to avoid an air bubble, don't zip it fully before releasing (smoothing out) the trapped air. This is a very good product for what is needed (bugproof, allergy proof, quality).

I’ve been very pleased with the features of this encasement— it washes well and is very nice quality. It is easier to put on with two people but you could probably manage with one if you absolutely had to. Bedbugs are such a pain to both try to prevent and to deal with if you have them. This is one tool that really helps and it is worth the money to have peace of mind that my mattress is protected from bedbugs.

I am very happy with this mattress cover/encasement. My mattress has a thickness of 14.5 inches and it fits extremely well. It is snug, but not so tight that it was difficult to put on. Putting it on the mattress was very simple, quick, and easy. It seems to be well made. I have not experienced any spills on my mattress so I cannot attest to the protection it provides in regards to that. The material is soft and the zipper functions well. I would definitely recommend this cover!

I bought this mattress casing to protect our new mattress from Allergens and dust mites. As great as it was to know that we had additional protection, it did end up making our mattress retain a lot more heat than it had without the mattress cover. This has months printed at the head and foot of the mattress so you know when to flip your mattress, which was a nice touch. Also, it was easy for one person to install on their own. Ultimately, I ended up returning this mattress cover because a hot mattress is an uncomfortable mattress

This is an essential item in your toolbox to fight against an infestation of bedbugs. It can be used as a preventative or you can put it on an infested mattress which traps the bugs inside and they eventually die in 14 months. If given the choice with an infestation, I recommend buying new mattress and box spring and bedrails, have the old ones removed at delivery time and then immediately put on these encasements. For your boxspring, don't buy the boxspring encasement, instead buy the size of mattress encasement that will fit your boxspring. They are thicker and stronger and less apt to tear, which renders it useless against the bedbugs. I learned this from an exterminator when researching mattress encasements. This item is well made and worth the money. Bedbugs will not be able to penetrate into your mattress. One thing, look inside the package carefully as there is a tiny packet of zip ties to secure the zipper end to a special tie. This secures the zipper so it can't open even the tiniest bit to allow entrance of bedbugs. I researched these encasements quite a bit and this brand is the best one I found. I recommend it highly.

It feels rly nice and was easy to put on. It fit my extra tall pillow-top queen bed.

Really good size and easy to fit mattress protection. However the zip is a little bit fiddley and required a few goes to get it to close without splitting open.

This really works! For a long time, I suffer itch every night even on a $5000 mattress. Dust mites doesn’t care how expensive your mattress is! After I got this mattress encasement , my itchiness is gone. I believe it’s due to my allergy to dust mites. Forget about dust mite spray , just get this. Highly recommended. I am buying another one for my son’s mattress after this review .
