Penn PENN Pursuit Fishing reel and rod combo

One of the best rotten real combos I ever bought

I’ve been using this PENN Pursuit combo for a few weeks now, and I’m honestly impressed with the performance. The reel is incredibly smooth, and the drag system handles large fish like a champ. I’ve taken it out for both freshwater and saltwater fishing, and it’s held up beautifully every time. The rod has a great feel — sensitive enough to detect bites but strong enough to fight back without feeling flimsy. It’s well-balanced, lightweight, and super comfortable to use for long fishing trips. Whether you’re just getting into fishing or have years of experience, this combo is a reliable, high-quality setup that performs way above its price. Highly recommend it!

As an avid fisherman, I have quite the collection of rods & reels for just about any occasion and I've long been a fan of the Penn equipment. One could easily spend $400 or more on an 8000 size reel and the Pursuit combo was just under $100 for the 8000 size reel on a 10' rod. I haven't had a chance to use this yet (planning on trying it out in a couple of days) but it's a great combo for surf fishing where the longer/bigger rods & reels help get those heavy weights a good distance out. I will note that the box it comes in is enormous! UPDATE: I've now put in about 20 or so fishing trips using this setup and I'm happy enough with the rod/reel combo that I purchased a second one a couple months back and also purchased the 8' with the 5000 reel. I've caught numerous fish and have no issues with any of the rods or reels. The Pursuit line really can't be beat for the price. It can also be tough finding good rods that break down into two pieces for easy transport in a small vehicle, which the Penn Pursuit series offers.

The rod was clearly broke before being shipped.. there's a whole foot or more missing in the box...
