Favorite backpack I’ve ever gotten
This backpack is absolutely amazing. I love how spacious it is without looking super bulky. It’s been perfect for a college student like me and its material is SO good. Not flimsy or thin, it’s very durable. I’ve had it for over a year and it still looks brand new. Definitely recommend.

Best bookbag/backpack ever!
I ordered this bag in August of 2020 as I was off to college for my Bachelor's for an engineering degree. I took a chance with this being the first listed backpack on Amazon, but it looked really well made and the reviews were glowing. also watched YouTube reviews on the bag. It's awesome! It fits a lot of things and it still looks good as new four years later. It's held up in all sorts of weather and has kept my things dry inside. I went to school 10 minutes away from Lake Erie, so it's held with wind, downpours, snowstorms, and sunny days. I've used it for both school and travel. I've had zero issues using it as my personal item on flights. It's also really comfortable to carry. Although I did tend to sling it just over my right shoulder, so the padding on that strap is a bit flattened compared to the other strap, but I only notice it in appearance. When on my shoulders, the two straps feel the same (plus the straps are adjustable - I'm a petite girl and made it fit nicely with no issue). I love the handle on the top too! I'm about 5'0" and 90lbs and would fill my bag with items so much that it'd typically be an extra 20lbs on me (yes, I genuinely weighed myself with the bag on vs off me and figured the difference lol) It can hold a ton of stuff. I carried my iPad Pro 12.9" (sometimes in the laptop slot, unless I had my 2022 ASUS TUF Dash F15 laptop, 15.6" display with me), a few Five Star notebooks, a class book if needed (although I stopped buying those after my first year lol), and my own book for casual reading just in the first slot alone. In the second main compartment, I carried my TI-84 Plus, a TI-30x, my writing supplies pouch, sometimes a bento box (or whatever other plastic food compartment) for lunch, and sometimes shoved a jacket and extra snacks in there. Used to carry workout supplies until I got a dedicated gym bag. I put necessities in the very last smaller pouch on the front. Even that pouch can fit a lot. I would say the maximum size item I put in my bag that prevented me from zipping it fully was a Strathmore 50-sheet 400 series 11" x 14" spiral-bound sketchbook in first main slot. I couldn't fully zip the first slot with this, and if I did, I kind of bent the sides of the sketchbook slightly. I know I'm being ultra-specific with names of items, but I'm doing it to give you an idea of dimensions and what you can all fit. During college, I saw a handful of other people with this bag, specifically the grey and black color, which always made me laugh since it's to be expected when it's very highly rated on Amazon and shows up as one of the first couple listings for backpacks. My SINGULAR issue with this bag, which isn't too much of an issue for me - the side pockets for holding a drink are not meant for large, tall, or otherwise heavy bottles. The times I've tried to take a Yeti water bottle I noticed the pocket was sagging with the bottle a little and struggling to hold it. I was worried that my Yeti would fall out so I'd have to put that zipped in my bag. I'm guessing it's because it was such a heavy bottle. This issue has also happened with the tall Walmart alkaline water bottles. It does perfectly fine with a typical 500mL water bottle though, a plastic short BlenderBottle, a can of soda or energy drink, etc. Just nothing too heavy or too tall. This "issue" hasn't stopped me from being happy with the bag though! TLDR; has held up through travelling (as a personal item on flights), four years of university, using it as a gym bag, all different types of weather and has kept my stuff protected and dry, can hold over 20lbs of items no problem, and still looks like I barely used it. also comfy to carry. Material is high quality and I haven't had problems with my bag getting dirty either. Get this! This thing is going to last me so many more years. I love it.

Really & truly *excellent*
Honestly, this backpack is so completely deserving of 5 stars that it makes me question other 5-star ratings I've given in the past -- I guess you could say the bar has been raised! And I say that even as there's one smallish detail that I personally don't love (but you might), which I'll come back to... but still, even more than I thought possible, I absolutely love this backpack! To get at least a general idea of why, browse to the Austere Grey 15.6" and check out the 7th image, actually a video. To that, I would just add... - There are perfect-sized mesh drink-holder type pockets on *both* sides (because why do some manufacturers skimp even on that?!) - The ring he hooks keys to has a quick-release button built in, as well! which also snaps really nicely back into place... It really is the little things! - And just to highlight, for the external USB port, there's a built-in cable on the inside you can plug your USB charger into, which connects to the external port you can leave your phone / whatever connected to without having to open any pockets (and here again the mesh pockets on both sides comes in handy). And of and when you don't want to use that, there's no real downside: the built-in cable is completely out of the way, and you won't likely even notice the external port, which BTW doesn't appear to negate the overall "seal" of the thing either, except *maybe* if you were to hold the entire thing underwater. :) The one smallish detail I would change, though, is that external port: it just happens to be USB-A while I'd prefer USB-C, for quicker charging... obviously not the hugest issue, and some might even prefer it that way. Personally, I'm seriously considering a bit of after-market "surgery" to "fix" this, which likely translates to having a pro unstitch and remove the port & internal cable, then stitch a (possibly 3D-printed?) replacement port into place. I wouldn't normally even consider that sort of "headache," but when the backpack overall is easily nicer than anything else I've found, even for 2x or 3x the price, it's suddenly really easy to make an exception. What else... - Something like 15 pockets? Which almost sounds overboard, but it's really not. Many are "optional" & otherwise out of the way, anyway -- just really well-distributed storage goodness! Oh, and the pen holders actually (easily) fit my completely normal-sized pens, unlike the new LL Bean bag I so promptly returned after getting this one. And the "security pocket" on the bottom, the side facing you as your wear it? Absolutely genius! - The zippers having been what finally gave out on the 20+ year old LL Bean bag I replaced, I'm a bit more conscious now of "initial zipper quality," and these seem just as solid as they come: totally sturdy, while also zipping surprisingly nicely & smoothly :) But perhaps that's a moot point anyway, considering the... - LIFETIME GUARANTEE! I hadn't realized this until mine arrived, but there's a card inside that says you can replace for any defect, for life! - The sizes refer to the size of laptop that would easily fit inside. That said, even a 17" laptop might still fit inside my 15.6" bag, just pretty snugly, but I wouldn't chance it. - if you do a lot of traveling, you might also want to consider the max size of a "personal item" on your favorite airline(s)... - The 14" is 16 x 12 x 7.5 inches - The 15.6" is 18 x 12 x 7.8 inches - The 17" is 19 x 13.75 x 7.8 inches - The 18" is... not sure! (but apparently those can actually fit up to an 18.4" laptop, which is huge!) For reference, a free "personal item" on JetBlue is up to 17 x 13 x 8 inches, making even the 15.6" technically the tiniest bit too large, but that said I'd be absolutely shocked if even the 17" got so much as a second glance on 1/100 flights (maybe a little more likely if you're flying on Spirit or Frontier, in which case WTH were you thinking, anyway?). In any case, the 17" would almost certainly fit under any seat, even on the most budget of "budget" airlines. TL;DR: I very rarely review anything, and I'm also not one to own multiple backpacks, especially not "just 'cause," but these are so perfect, not to mention affordable, that I've found myself happily doing both!

Backpack is great but zippers are cheap
UPDATE Oct 2024: This backpack made it through several trips without incident. The zippers have stayed intact and there has been no signs of wear. My only complaint at this point is that if you completely fill the backpack, it will not fit under a small (normal) airplane seat. I had to remove my jacket and purse from the backpack + remove the drink I had in the side mesh pocket in order to get it to fit. Kind of a bummer, but I’ll definitely get a lot of use out of this backpack regardless. Just know that you won’t be able to stuff it and still get it to fit under the seat. I have had the smaller version of this backpack for over 3 years and it has held up through a ton of travel (like I spent more time in airports than I spent at home kind of travel) and through me filling it way past capacity. Not a single zipper has broken and it barely has any signs of wear. I tried putting a keyboard and a larger 17" laptop in there and was super bummed when they didn't fit. I was SO excited to find out that there's a 17" version of the backpack I've loved since March 2021 and I immediately bought it, even though the price was a bit steep. For reference, I bought the smaller one for $22 and this one was $42.89. I received it today and it looks pretty much the same. Here's the side by side comparison: - (PRO) The 17" bookbag has all the same compartments/pockets/you-name-its as the 15.6" bag. It has a spacious pocket/compartment for everything you could possibly need to pack but it's not so spacious that it's bulky. Even the larger version seems like a good size for shoving under an airplane seat. -(PRO) Both sizes have this but I think it's worth mentioning. I've seen a lot of bookbags with fabric pockets on either side and I'm here to say that those are a dealbreaker for me. As a frequent traveler, I use those pockets for drinks, both large (large can of sparkling water or a 1 liter bottle) and small. The fabric pockets don't have any give and I am usually not able to get a drink in there. The stretchy mesh pockets that this bookbag has is *chefs kiss* perfection. - (PRO) The section that your laptop goes in zips all the way down on the larger/17" version. No more digging through a completely packed bookbag for that small item I carelessly tossed in the bottom. My 15.6" laptop bag doesn't have that feature and I didn't know I needed it. -(CON) The front horizontal pocket on the small version is 10.5" deep (goes all the way to the bottom of the backpack) and the large version is 6.5" deep. I would've liked to have the deeper pocket on the larger backpack but it will still work fine for what I need. -(CON and this is a major one) Right out of the packaging, it was obvious that there is a major difference in zipper quality between these two backpacks. I took the plastic off of the 17" backpack and the zipper on the hidden pocket (the pocket that goes against your back) was zipped shut but was open in the middle. I fixed it for now but I'm not confident that it will hold up. I definitely won't be trusting that pocket with my passport or money, which is what it was meant for. The zipper in the front pocket where your phone, pens, etc go was doing the same thing and the zipper is noticeably smaller than the one on my 15.6" laptop. This is a big one and if any of the exterior zippers do this again, I'll be returning it. I'll be traveling in a week and will give it a go with the larger size backpack but I'm bringing my smaller one just in case the entire thing breaks loose and I find myself picking up all of my stuff from the floor in the TSA line. *cue panic attack* Will update my review afterwards.

Perfect size for air travel. Fits under seat, light, and lots of pockets.
This is a great deal on a great backpack. My MacBook Air fits perfectly in it. Lots of little pockets; it's light, has a trolley strap, and fits very nicely under the seat on an airplane.

Good Value
Very sturdy backpack. I can fit two laptops, a portable monitor inside, and still have plenty of room for a change of clothes. I use it for traveling and found it to be easier to carry around without feeling too bulky or heavy on the shoulders.

Professional look and roomy
I was very pleased with this backpack. It's quite sturdy. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and I'm really happy. It's much roomier than I thought it would be. There are 2 large compartments and then 3 smaller ones. The straps are adjustable and comfortable. There are pockets inside each compartment so you can organize your stuff. It also has a professional look - it doesn't look like a school bag. I wear this to the office each day.

Excellent, durable backpack with great capacity
I've been using this backpack for over three years now, and it's held up fantastically. The capacity is excellent – I can easily fit a full shop inside, and it's been my go-to for weekend trips across Europe, including Norway, Sweden, and other countries. The material is durable and still shows no signs of wear or damage after years of use. I really like the color, and the multiple pockets (including pockets with internal compartments) are perfect for organizing accessories. The laptop compartment easily fits a 16-inch thick gaming laptop, which is a huge plus. There are a few minor drawbacks: the back can get quite hot since the backpack isn’t very breathable, so during summer I often end up with a sweaty back. The side pockets are convenient but not very deep; occasionally the bottom water bottle can fall out, though most of the time they hold items securely. I don’t use the USB charging accessory, but I imagine it would be very handy. Comfort is average – not amazing, but sufficient for most uses. Overall, this backpack is highly practical, durable, and well-designed for both everyday use and travel.

Best inexpensive alternative
It has plenty of pockets that help balance the weight of items. I bring my laptop and ipad with me in this bag and it does not feel heavy at all. This bag was a great alternative to expensive brands.
