Mandoline Slicer for Kitchen, Adjustable Stainless Steel Food Slicer

I have a plastic madolin slicer that I use to cut soft veggies but I needed something sturdier to make homemade fries. This fit the bill nicely. The stand is solid and the blades are very sharp. You have to cut the potato in half to slice it which makes it easier to hold and slide but it works very well. No more bagged fries for us! Be careful using it because you can easily trim a piece of your finger off. The gloves that are included will only fit someone with small hands so I couldn't use them since I have very large hands for a man. Otherwise the rest of the kit is fine.

I remember clearly I was looking at a recipe book and they recommended this Mandoline. I didn't know what that was. So I looked it up and found it. We don't need another kitchen gadget but honestly this has saved so much time and effort. I love pulling it out in front of my mother-in-law who laughs and calls it the lazy person's knife. But when I show her how fast I am in cutting up stuff for a dish she is shocked. I love initiating with sliced onions and then chopping them up to make super diced onions or slice up some celery and then put it in my tuna. So many things I can do with this slicer it's awesome. During APPLE season I love slicing apples with it since it's super fast and you can eat every part of the apple. One question for the company that sold it on Amazon: What's with the gloves? I've never used them because I'm not sure what it's for!?

It’s not bad for the price… It’s sharp, & did a great job slicing potatoes.. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars, is because when I tried to remove the core? I followed the directions but it felt stuck, & if I pushed any harder? Kinda felt like it was gonna break. Besides that? It’s pretty good. I’d like to say, if you never used one before? You should watch a few videos to make sure you don’t hurt yourself. This thing is not a toy, & will slice your finger off if you let it. So if you’re not going to use the guide it comes with? Make sure you keep your fingers & thumb extended & joined, & put the object you’re slicing in the palm of your hand. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

I use mine mostly for thin slicing. I could never get such good results with a knife. I love that the handle collapses for storage, and it comes with a pronged food holder for hand protection. My friend saw me use mine and wanted one, so I got her one for a gift.

This works quite well at cutting slices of things, such as vegetables or potatoes. It cuts quickly and cleanly, and it's easy to carefully control the size of the slices that you want. It would be very easy to slice yourself if you didn't use the gloves or the holder. I expect that you could seriously hurt yourself with this if you are not careful. It is probably not something that would be good to have around children. It does poorly with things that you want to cut into fine shreds, such as cheese. The minimum thickness that you can adjust the slices to is still relatively thick, and I don't think there is really any good way around this. It does not compare to or replace cheese graters / shredders such as rotary shredders. Only a few slices will fit under the slicer, which is where things fall. It's a bit annoying to have to pause every 3 slices or so to pull a plate out from under the mandoline and reposition things, and it slows down processing.

After years of battling with my old mandolin (which was more of a blunt suggestion than a slicer), I finally upgraded—and oh baby, this thing means business. From the moment I unboxed it, I knew my vegetables were in trouble. Onions? Obliterated. Tomatoes? Sliced so thin they could audition for a paper cut. Potatoes? Perfectly uniform chips that made me feel like a snack scientist. This mandolin is sharp, sleek, and somehow makes me feel both powerful and slightly concerned for my fingertips. (Seriously, use the hand guard. Don’t be a hero.) Cleanup is easier than convincing me to order takeout, and it stores neatly without looking like a medieval torture device. It’s like the Ferrari of kitchen gadgets—if the Ferrari came with a warning label and made salads. Bottom line: If you’re still using that dull, clunky relic you bought during the Bush administration, do yourself (and your stir-fry) a favor and upgrade. You won’t regret it.

I bought it to make thick sliced eggplant or zucchini "noodles" for Lasagna and Fettuccini Alfredo, to escape from carb-filled pasta. I've done it before, but with a "AHCZDDK Vegetable Chopper" I also bought from Amazon.com. I thought it would make thicker slices, but it was not going to. Instead, I washed a nice fresh eggplant and couldn't get it to cut. So I sliced the first slice with a potato peeler. It was very hard to get to the blade, then the slice was super thin. It does not have variable slice thicknesses. It has notches. You can make a slice, a thick julienne, or a skinny julienne. The thickness of each is predetermined. When I got halfway through the eggplant, it stopped slicing altogether. The product pusher started running into the blade. No bueno! This is not good. Certainly not what I had in mind. I'm stuck making "noodles" with the veggie slicer (which slices quite beautifully - just too thin) and layering the extremely thin "noodles" 3 layers high.

Very blunt and design doesn’t work. I have a guillotine that’s over 10 years old, and worked great but has become blunt. Still 10 times sharper than this. The guard is also poorly design and borderline dangerous - especially to people who don’t know what they are doing. Very poor product.

This mandolin is very well constructed and the blade is very sharp. It comes with gloves and I did wear it when I was slicing because I always seem to slice my fingers. Happy to report that all ten digits are in tact! Well worth the money. As for clean up, if you have a dishwasher, put it on the top rack and it will clean up perfectly!
