Correct. The RK9109 accessory extends the reach to 50". Without it you get out to 36".

I just bought one, how is the guy in the picture clamping a bike? I can't get "the hands" close that small. Am I doing something wrong?

the rear clamping jaw might be reversed. If oriented correctly, the jaw will close and hold something paper thin. If it is reversed, you just have to slide it off, flip it around and then you can close it tighter.

Can the jaw horse be used as a router table? I have the Summerfeld router tabletop.

I have clamped material into the Jaw (reasonably thick so it sticks above the jaw) and used a hand held router to shape an edge. I wouldn't call it a replacement for a regular router table though.

I have 300 pound logs to saw through -- is this the right tool?

You won't break the jawhorse with a puny 300 lb log ;-). If you want to lift logs that high, it will hold them. You'll want the log/chainsaw accessory RK9101 and a second jawhorse on which to rest the other end if the logs are long. You could use a regular sawhorse, but it seems like a good excuse to buy JawHorses. This is the Best Tool Ever. Two of them would be twice as good.
