Jennifer Hillier is amazing
This book, ugh. All of Jennifer Hilliers books I’ve read so far have been amazing but this one… is probably the best. What a twisted tale of love, murder, and secrets. Most of the twists I didn’t really catch on to until they were almost revealed. It was just so good and by the end I was crying! 5 stars, 10/10. Just so so so good!

An Emotionally Gripping Thriller with Unexpected Depths
"Jar of Hearts" is a novel that takes readers on an intense and emotionally exhausting journey, weaving a well-crafted plot with numerous twists and turns that keep you hooked until the very end. Jennifer Hillier's storytelling prowess shines through, as she crafts a narrative that not only keeps you on the edge of your seat but also delves into the complexities of human emotion and relationships. The story follows Georgina "Geo" Shaw, a woman haunted by her past involvement in a brutal crime. As the tale unfolds, Hillier expertly peels back the layers of Geo's history, revealing a web of secrets, lies, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship and family. The author's ability to create multidimensional characters adds depth to the narrative, making it easy to empathize with their struggles and motivations. One of the standout aspects of "Jar of Hearts" is its emotional impact. Hillier doesn't shy away from exploring the darkest corners of human nature, and the resulting emotional toll on the reader is palpable. You'll find yourself fully invested in Geo's journey, experiencing her triumphs and anguish as if they were your own. It's a testament to the author's skill that she can evoke such visceral reactions from her audience. However, it's important to note that the book delves into some disturbing subject matter, including Geo's complicated relationship with her son and the parallels drawn between him and his father. While Hillier's portrayal of a mother's conflicted emotions is understandable, some readers may find the comparison unsettling or even frustrating.Despite this potential point of contention, "Jar of Hearts" remains a gripping and well-crafted thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. Hillier's ability to weave together intricate plot threads and explore the depths of human emotion makes for a truly immersive and unforgettable reading experience. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers that don't shy away from the darker aspects of human nature, "Jar of Hearts" is an absolute must-read. Just be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you both satisfied and emotionally drained by the time you reach the final page.

Better ending please
** 4 stars** I loved this book, the ending just didn't quite get it over the line. It's hard to write much about this book without giving away spoilers, but I will try! This is a fast paced thriller told over multiple timelines. It is primarily told from the perspective of Georgina (Geo), but is interjected with the perspective of her childhood friend, now detective, Kaiser. Over the various timelines we see what happens in the lead up to Angela's murder, the day after her trial and years in prison, and the days after her release from prison when bodies start showing up again. What I liked:-I liked how the author described Geo and Calvin's relationship. I liked how the author reflect that Geo knew that their relationship was unhealthy, but she was so in love/ enamoured that she didn't care.-How the author showed the relationship between Angela and Geo. The relationship was unhealthy, but I think the girls genuinely loved each other. However, I still did wonder throughout most of the book how much Geo had to do with Angela's death-How all the characters in the book were flawed in some way, this made them believe-able to me and also made the story a little bit more gritty.-The author included all the gory details. What I didn't like:-The ending, I didn't find it satisfying at all.-I really wanted to see more of Calvin. How amazing would it have been to hear from his POV?-The relationship between Kaiser and Geo. He deserved so much more. Why would you want to be someone's second, third, fourth choice? How could her forgive her for everything he put him through?-How the author made a link between genetics and being evil. I like the concept, but I think that it wasn't explore in-depth enough.Summary:When Geo was a teenager, her best friend Angela Wong disappeared without a trace. Now, fourteen years laters her body is discovered in the woods behind her house. Their old friend Kaiser (Kai) discovers the truth, Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who Geo dated back in high school. The same Calvin Hames who has since murdered at least three other women. For 14 years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For 14 years, she carried the secret of Angela’s death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison. But while everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep.

An original storyline that unravels slowly.
I had high hopes for this book after countless of 5 star reviews and recommendations that this was the best thriller ever! That it was not.Don't get me wrong it was good and I was entertained with an original storyline that unravelled slowly. What let it down was the build up which was on the slow side. The plot:When Geo was 16 her 21 year old boyfriend murdered her best friend and Geo helped him bury her body. 14 years later when her body is discovered she is sent to jail for her part in it all. Except her boyfriend didn't stop there and evolved into the Sweetbay strangler. Now in jail about to be released more bodies turn up except they all point to Geo in some way. What secrets are waiting to be uncovered and who is behind these new murders. Is Geo next?I'm glad I read the book and its a good intro into this author and I hope others are also enjoyable.
