What a Journey!
I loved the first book in this series, Hidden Wings and could not wait to get my hands on this one. A few weeks ago I read the prequel, Descent, and it was good too. They are young adult books. You really need to read the first book in order to understand and totally enjoy this one. There are some mild spoilers ahead. This book begins where the last book left off. Emma and group are all in an underground bunker surrounded by the evil Darklings. Kade has gone to the Midway looking for reinforcements to help with the battle. And when he gets back everything has changed. Lucian, the evil fallen angel, is determined that Emma will either be his to command or die. The group decides that they need to go to Hell and convince Lucifer to help them because of Lucian's quest to kill all half angels. As Lucifer's son is half angel he has an interest in helping the group save the half angels or Nephilim as they are called. With this decision, the real adventure of this story begins.I have read several books that take place at least partially in Hell and I have to say I usually do not care for it. This one does it much better then the others I have read. The author's view of Hell is very different and interestingly told. The view of Lucifer was pretty interesting too! This was a good story. We get to know more about Emma's birth parents and the Guardians. I really love the characters in this series. However, most of the story occurs in Hell and if I had one criticism it would be that I wanted more of the story to occur in Alaska like the last book. Like I said, not a big fan of books that take place in Hell here. However, I do agree that it was necessary to the story. The author definitely knows how to write and definitely knows how to write for young adults. This was one big adventure from start to finish. There are major twists and turns in the story and you really don't see them coming. There's also some sadness. The ending was pretty much a cliffhanger so I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.I rated it 4.5 stars rounding it up to 5

it's ok.....
read all 3 books (Hidden Wings, Descent, and this.. ) Most part of the book was really predictable, not all but most and also redundant. Like other comments about this book, a lot of Emma's feelings being brought out are very repetitive, it seems like the author really doesn't know how to bring out her character. She always plays the damsel in distress. I mean, they have already passed the 3rd gate of hell and she still can't get her act together. Annoying. As of the rest of the plot, i felt like it was lacking and some parts were very contradicting. For example: (SPOILER)1. What's with the Guardians being able to go to hell? Why would Kade suffer such fate if suddenly some Guardians would be able to show up in Hell anyway. I thought that only the Fallen and human souls are allowed to enter. Even that part lacked some explanation on how they were able to get in.2. And the FALLEN can just enter the house and down goes the protection... all along i thought that they can't enter the house because of it.3. The first book stated that the only Nephalim left are Emma and Alaine, and then suddenly this book comes up with having Lucifer's son as being a Nephalim himself because the author needs to somehow involve Lucifer in the story to take revenge on Lucian. So if you have read Hidden wings, you would notice a lot of conflicting stories between that book and this one.4. (SPOILER) And when they finally got to Lucifer, i was expecting it to be more challenging for Emma and Samuel but instead Lucifer agreed to help them because his son was smitten by Emma.. really?? Wasn't he suppose to be cunning and devious? It doesn't really conform to a 'must read' book. It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat, instead, it felt like some scenarios were just put in there which would make the reader scratch his/her head and say, "What!?!"Although this book leaves you hanging, it's just an 'okay' read for me. it really is for young adults. even all the characters' personalities are such of a teenager or early 20s (except for Alaine,Samuel and Danyel. James isn't as involved like the other guardians). i will still purchase the next book since i already read all 3 and i wanted to see what happens next. but i hope the next book would get the readers to be more engaged in their reading and to be less predictable. I also hope that Emma's character is more developed in the next book.

A solid follow up
I thought this book was better than the first one. The story was more small scale. With a specific task but it worked better than the first book. You see some real growth from Emma. The first real look of why she's so important. Which was sorely lacking from the first book. The descent into hell was pretty good considering how hard it would be to write. Deciding how detailed to get and everything else that could factor into it.There is some good father, daughter moments between Samuel and Emma. A couple good moments between Emma and her mother (I'd like to see more of those). I was surprised at how much these 3 people, long separated, coming together as a family improved the quality of the story. Because it really did.The Guardians are still like college guys at a frat party. ThereIs some more detail but they ate still a little generic. The ending is okay. Not terrible but anti climactic. The author throws in a love triangle which I don't think will be good for the quality of the story. If you read enough urban fantasy you know how this goes. Love triangles often have some mystical or prophecy level of importance. The main character often has no control over it which is just an excuse for her to fool around with more than one guy. Then people will hate her and forgive her then hate her again. It can often take away from the story. This book is worth the $. I will have to wait for the reviews on the next book before I buy it.

Better then the first!
When I first started reading the first of the series I wasn't too sure. Her wonderful guardian Kade seemed too perfect, and they fell in love waaayy to quickly. I also found it a bit predictable. It all changed in this book though.First, they travel through the 5 layers of hell, forced to fight against the guardians to reach their destination! I loved this. I really loved how Emma stepped up and began to be the bad ass, independent heroine i wanted her to be. Also, many people are saying about how they hated the love triangle. I usually hate books with the slightest hint of romance, especially love triangles. However, although Kade is sweet, I like this new lad in her life. I love a bad boy!

Omg
Omg this series is getting better and better now gonna start the 3rd installment, mind you I do have my suspicions on why Emma has the dagger but we shall see

Good second instalment
Again this was too short and I think the lack of detail in parts made this, for me, only four stars. It could have been utterly stunning as it's a fantastic storyline but it seemed rushed in parts that for me should have been more detailed e.g. Emma's feelings and her changing attitude as she goes through the five gates of hell.I only hope that the next is longer.
