Stunning book of delicious easy to follow vegan recipes
This is a beautiful book and I love the warmth and personality of Georgina's voice in her writing. At its heart, this is a lovely collection of delicious vegan Mediterranean recipes. The reasoning behind it is fascinating: these are tried and tested recipes brought about through traditional fasting and I have to agree with Claudia Roden's quote... it really is worth fasting to eat like this. So far I have tried fasoles (slow cooked beans and vegetables), humous soup, the mushroom, potato and cumin bourekia and the za'atar buns and they have all been absolutely delicious. I'm really excited to try the keftedes and the shiamishi (fried orange blossom custard pies) which sound outrageous!

I love it
Definitely one of the best if not thee actual best vegan cook book I've ever laid my eyes upon. Lovely photos and lots of interesting historical and cultural information. The recipes are all traditional whole foods (that's how I found this book in the first place, because I didn't want a modern vegan cookbook, I wanted something ethnic and old school ie. whole foods) ... there's a Cypriot recipe for fermented cauliflower with wheat flour. I'm excited to try the recipes because I haven't tried any yet. Just reading the recipes has been inspiring though. Lots of new.combinations textures and experiences to be discovered. Super recommend, all around.

Awesome, Great, Wholesome
I love this book. It has enough photos…important! Whole Food Plant Based recipes, relatively healthy. Some recipes use a good amount of olive oil but that can be reduced to ones liking. Recipes from many regions of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, flavours that I enjoy very much. A review criticizes the religious information in the book and called the book religious but I totally disagree. There is a difference between preaching and relating facts about the type of meals people from these regions eat while fasting for spiritual reasons on specific days of a year. To me, this is an awesome collections of WFPB recipes. All fairly simple to make and very tasty including desserts…not fasting food for me at all. I love that there is no use of vegan cheeses, nutritional yeast, large amounts of nuts or alcool in recipes. I’m not afraid of sugar or honey personally. Some recipes that include fresh tomatoes or cucumbers I intend to keep for the summer when I have them fresh from the garden. I tend to eat seasonally. I also scale down recipes so as not to have too much surplus. This way, I get to try more recipes. So far I made a soup with chickpeas, the lentil and roasted beet salad and today, the zaatar buns which I made with my sourdough starter instead of yeast. I look forward to trying most of the recipes in this book. I’m really happy to have found it and excited for my tastebuds! Yum all around!
