The rod was clearly broke before being shipped.. there's a whole foot or more missing in the box...

Good value rod and reel combo. Unfortunately did not get to test on "big" fishing, but handled smaller fish effortlessly. Very solid construction and operation so far. Casts well and has good balance.

I’m only giving this review 5 stars for the performance of the rod and reel. I have several of the pursuit iv combos and they have all been very good to me with no issues. I took advantage of the Penn Christmas sale and ordered some for gifts. The problem was in the shipping. Each combo was was shipped unboxed. All of the 4 rods suffered bent eyes and one reel had the bail bent. I ordered 4 more from Penn directly for the exact same price as on Amazon and they arrived all boxed separately with NO damage.

I bought this combo to surf fish at the beach while on vacation. It did a great job bringing in pompano, bluefish, whiting and other species. I found this length to be perfect for surf fishing, long enough to make the long casts that are required but not so long that it becomes cumbersome to use. The reel is very smooth with a smooth drag system as well.
