Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs (Concerts, Musicians, Airplanes, Motorcycles, Sensitivity and Universal Hearing Protection) - Standard, Clear Stem w/ Frost Tip

I like these. They are the fourth pair of "nice" earplugs I've tried (I'm not counting the regular foam ones, which don't even fit into my ears), and have so far been the best. They fit snugly in my ear and really filter the sound well, and generally stay put well too (I dance in them, including fast spins, and they do not slip out at all - however, like most earplugs, you may notice when you smile or move your face in certain ways, they may open up slightly, or if you exercise vigorously in them like me and get sweaty. I've found this with every earplug I've tried, but these seem to do it less than others). They also are not very noticeable with the clear stems, which I like. They are also easy to insert and remove. The only issue I have is that they are uncomfortably tight - at the end of a couple of hours, while my ears are thankfully not ringing, they are in pain from being squeezed by these things. As a caveat, I do have really tiny ear canals, so it may just be me. They also are better than another pair I tried that was really inflexible and even more painful - these at least have some give. Then again, I wonder if these would be snug enough for large ear canals, but maybe the flexibility would make them adaptable. Regardless, they've worked well for me overall and I find myself reaching for these every time and leaving my other ear plugs at home. I haven't used them long enough to see how they'll hold up, but the plastic seems sturdier than another brand I tried with a similar construction. I would recommend trying them, especially if you have smaller ear canals and regular plugs don't fit. Update 7/16: I have changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars and ordered a second backup pair, because these earplugs have remained a favorite. The main downside is that if you are using them during heavy activity when you are sweating and moving a lot, you might find yourself having to push them back in fairly regularly. I only use them for dancing so I don't know if this would be an issue for other activities. However, compared to the benefits and considering the price, I think these are a great buy. Also, people almost never notice that I am wearing them, even when my hair is up, which is great - I love that they are discreet. They also really filter sound well without giving you that muffled feeling. Highly recommended! Update 5/17: I am still using and enjoying these earplugs. However, I must note that they are NOT sufficient for very high volumes. I recently attended a music event and wore these throughout, but experienced horrible ringing in my ears for days afterwards. They are still good earplugs and have saved me at other times, but be aware that for a certain level of noise you will need something with more protection.

I've owned these for a bit over a year and used them a few times now. Perfect product and as my headline says I think they're vital for anyone who's planning on being in a loud environment (like a concert, rave, etc) to own. I've suffered hearing loss a couple of times in my life due to a physical injury to my head. I've recovered (at least like 95% anyway) but I take hearing damage very seriously now. It's miserable. These earplugs don't alter sounds in any noticeable (or at least not negative) way, just bring down the dB levels overall. So at a rave or a concert or whatever, you'll be hearing the music clearly almost like you didn't have earplugs in, it'll just be quieter. I don't know if I'd say you'll forget they're in, but they definitely aren't uncomfortable. I wore these to a rave where I was almost right by the speakers for like 1-2 hours and I didn't feel the need to take them out at all. 20 dollars sounds like a lot for earplugs, but these aren't just some ordinary plugs you can buy at like CVS (well maybe you can, I've never looked lol). And 20 dollars is a small price to pay for significantly lowering your risk of hearing damage over time if you're someone who is around loud noise a lot, whether for work or fun. Heck, even if you only ever plan to go to a loud event just once in your life, I'd still say these are a must buy to avoid some temporary (or if you're unlucky, permanent) tinnitus after.

I have never used ear plugs for music events before, but the last time I went to one, I couldn't hear well for about 4 days, with continuous ear ringing. I decided to try these ear plugs. The "standard" size fit me ok, and I think I have small ear canals. An even smaller size might have fit better, but these "standards" were good enough. At first, I didn't think they were even doing anything for me, because they only lowered the volume by a little bit. The music sounded great, and not muffled, just without all the bass vibrating in my ears. And I could still hear the person next to me talking to me, if they were looking at me. However, I took them out during the concert for a few seconds, and noticed the difference immediately. My ears started to hurt and vibrate with the music, which wasn't happening while the ear plugs were in. Winner! Best of all, I came out of the concert with normal hearing for the first time in my life. The tips stick out and are noticeable, but the clear color make it less so. They are also very comfortable. I wore them for a few hours with no problem. I didn't like the carrying case they came with because it was hard for me to pinch it open and access everything (the ear plugs, and the strap).

In my use case I'm a music producer (mostly EDM/IDM) and when it comes to hearing, being able to pick out frequency ranges for your VSTi/instrument's overtones is super important for engineering the sounds into the songs you're making. So I found it to be of the utmost importance to carry a set of earplugs that both complement the safety of my ears and enjoyment of the events I go to. For the price and what you get the etymotics are an easy recommendation for anyone else who was teetering on the edge for a set. The only real downside is that there's a sharp dropoff of decibels for range of like 5K and up, but custom earplugs are for that purpose of protecting and listening at a premium. I found the neck attachment super useful since unless you get a custom fit earplugs - you'll need to be taking these out for your own comfort and making sure your ears can breathe at the events you're attending, and you don't have to constantly open that plastic casing that's honestly frustrating to open. (it's also short enough that it doesn't move around a lot whilst dancing or doing other fast activity.) Normally you shouldn't take a risk on buying something that may not fit you, but you can get your ear canal measured at say Costco or finally have that ear checkup you've been needing so you can get your official measurements. But if you're typically average in whatever sizings you've taken then take the chance because your hearing can never regenerate with our current technology :( $20 is a good buy for something you can never get back. It's 1000000000× of an upgrade compared to the pharmacy store foam earplugs and unlike those these are more comfortable AND safely reusable.

I tell my kids, "Smart people wear earplugs." Hearing loss is not cool or funny or quirky. It's preventable, and that's what you should remember. These ETY-Plugs are a wonderful option for folks who want to protect your ears and want the sound to be more or less normal sounding. These plugs really do what they claim. It's like you are turning down the volume on life. I have 2 sets of these type. This ETY version was for my oldest daughter who plays drums in school band. I played drums in school too. In any band setting there is an opportunity to experience very high levels of sound. Few acoustic instruments get louder than percussion and drums. Now 6th graders aren't going to be laying into the drums really hard, but it is smart to be protected. If someone was using a high speed rotary tool next to you, it would be wise to put on eye protection. Any child in band (no matter what instrument) should be using these. It's not worth the risk of hearing loss. I tested these plugs out before giving them to my daughter. They work just like the ER20XS that I own. They can be uncomfortable when worn for very long periods, but that doesn't happen often. It really does help to moisten them when inserting them, just like it says in the instructions. However you choose to do that is your business. Sometimes I will just lick my finger and wipe it on the tip. Whatever works for you. Bottom line is that these plugs are worth your hearing.

Work pretty well in allowing me to hear what I need to hear while I'm singing, but the string broke almost immediately.

I've had the standard (blue) size for at least a year now; I'm a 47 year old female. I always have them with me since my spouse and I go out a lot and I use them often, especially at bars with live music being played too loud, at rock concerts and music festivals, during airline travel, and while driving on the freeway with the top down. I've even found they make vacuuming more pleasant. They're the best I've tried when it comes to still being able to enjoy high sound quality, just at a reasonable and comfortable decibel level. I can sit next to my spouse in a loud bar and hear every word he says instead of having to strain to hear him above all the rest of the noise. I can talk loudly enough in order for those around me in loud settings who are not wearing earplugs to hear me, but not so loud that my own volume hurts their ears, because I can easily hear myself talk. The flexible plastic carrying case they come is is easy to pinch open and seal shut. There's a ball chain attachment loop on the exterior of the case. The black cord is a convenient included accessory to use when I know I'll be switching back and forth between wearing and removing the earplugs, and it's simple to attach them to the ends of the cord which then holds them securely. Most recently, this was useful at a music festival as we wandered between different stages and it wasn't always necessary to wear them but I wanted them handy without having to dig in my purse for them and open the carrying case. When the plugs weren't in my ears, I just loosely looped one end of the cord over the other with the plugs still attached and wore it as one would a necklace. I'm very pleased with these earplugs and would happily buy another pair after my current ones wear out - which doesn't appear to happening any time soon.

I purchased these to use for a concert I was volunteering at and have since used them in most any situation that leaves me near loud, prolonged noises. These earplugs do an amazing job at dampening loud noises to make the sound bearable, and, I think, safe. I cannot say for sure what the decibel reduction is for these, but I can tell you that standing right in front of the stage and speakers at a punk rock show for five hours, I was more than comfortable. I could still hear the music and conversations, but at a bearable level. I went home that night without any ringing (tinnitus) in my ears, and felt inclined to use them again. The small size of these earplugs, combined with the carrying case they come in means that I can stuff these into my backpack when I go to study at the library, or conceal them in my pocket when I go to live events. Their straight rubber design means that they fit into any ear, regardless of your earlobes shape. These earplugs work so well I purchased a pair for my father to use in the garage to save his hearing when he's using power tools. Buy these for anyone who you think needs an easy, low-profile, portable way to protect their ears.

It definitely does the job alright! Seems to be comfortable.Listening to speech is clear and audible although you might have to focus on the speaker a lil bit. It does get a little uncomfortable, so don't expect a soft, tender experience. Ultimate downside is that it requires cleaning and cleaning can take a while especially when ear wax gets stuck under the flanges and this process has generally discouraged me to an extent though I still use it. It sticks out of your ears!! So you might draw weird looks and comments!

Li ho comprati per proteggere le orecchie durante serate con musica ad alto volume, da questo punto di vista funzionano perfettamente. Certo non sono perfetti, non credo che si possa chiedere la perfezione per questo prezzo, però sono infinitamente meglio dei classici tappi che ovattano e basta. La risposta in frequenza non è lineare ma è ragionevole, di sicuro conta più la sala che i tappi nell'ascolto, è già un bel risultato. E a fine serata le orecchie non ronzano. Penso che li userò anche in occasioni come fiere affollate e simili, quando mi capita di essere esposto a forte rumore per diverse ore di fila.
