Akka Cookbook

I find this book very helpful in applying Akka in my projects. I was reading many books on Akka before but this book is taking me to the next level. If you are looking to build the strong foundation with Akka using Scala this book is for you.

I think this would be very useful if akka docs were terrible.. But they are not and are full of examples too. So, this book, apart from patterns chapter, is just restructured docs. I was hoping for stuff that is not in docs, like (in http module) an actor per request pattern, etc.

I'm reading this on the O'Reilly learning platform, so forgive me if this has been cleaned up elsewhere. The quality of the code samples goes downhill after the first few that are available from github. Buggy, typos, and sometimes don't follow the general guidelines for Akka development. I've learned quite a lot from the book, but a non-trivial amount is from fixing bugs or improving the code to prove the point the samples are supposed to be trying to make. One of the samples from github doesn't even compile due to some extra braces. There's a pull request from 2 years ago to fix it, but no takers.The quality of the content is not always great either. Not that helpful when a router description is just a few bullet points copied out of the Java docs. The endless pages of "getting ready", "how to do it" and "how it works" is tiresome, especially when it's often repeated .... I get it by now, open the hello-akka project in an IDE. Must be really increase the size of the paper book, especially when each one takes a whole (mostly blank) page. Also makes the table of contents hard to navigate.It's not all bad. I appreciate that the code samples are in Scala. In general, it's guiding me through the different types of components and how to string them together, which I guess is what I really wanted out of it.

Very good book with great examples!

I found this book an excellent guide while trying to learn Akka. It contains an abundance of code snippets that help digest the material. I think the authors put a lot of thought into structuring the book and what questions the reader might have while applying the concepts. I found the examples very useful in my personal projects. Overall, I would highly recommend!!

I have been using Akka for a while now. I've found this book to cover most of my use cases, plus some that I've not encountered yet. The example code is quite clear. I really like the "cookbook" format and would like to see it continue into advance scenarios.

Great book! I was starting from zero with Akka and in no time I was able to implement the use case I wanted following several recipes. Totally recommended!

Not as expected. The documentation of Akka contains good examples, then no need to purchase this book.
