The "lifetime HEPA filter" that you should actually replace
Bought this to replace the "lifetime" HEPA filter in my 4 year old Dyson DC18 vacuum, after we began to notice a decline in the suction, and also an awful burning hair type of smell whenever the vacuum was run for a few straight minutes. There are plenty of videos on youtube that can easily be found that show users explaining exactly how to get to and replace the built in lifetime filter. Two T-15 Torx screws and a quick twist, and you can get to the existing filter in a matter of 60 seconds. Pull the old one out (which will likely be fairly dirty looking and gross), drop the new one in, twist the plastic cover on and replace the two Torx screws and you are good to go.We noticed a significant increase in the suction in our vacuum after, and it felt almost like it was brand new again. And best part of the whole thing, no more burnt hair type odor when the vacuum heated up. We replaced the pre-filter as well (also purchased from Amazon), and the combination of the two really revived this vacuum and saved us from wanting to purchase a new one anytime soon. The part looks and feels identical to the original OEM HEPA filter, so I am fairly confident that this is a genuine Dyson replacement part. Overall, no reason I can think of to give this less than 5 stars. It was a cost effective maintenance that probably extended the useful life of our expensive Dyson vacuum by another few years.

Perfect Replacement for Dyson's Not-So-"Lifetime" HEPA Filters
We recently noticed our ~6 year old, 2-hairy-dogs-home Dyson DC18 was struggling along and were about to pull the trigger on a new (expensive) replacement. Instead, I did a little research and took ours apart in the hopes that a rigorous cleaning would restore it to its former glory. After viewing a few cleaning/tuneup tutorials online (and reading the reviews here), I discovered that the "lifetime" HEPA filter inside our vacuum was midnight black (gross!). This replacement arrived quickly, was a perfect fit, and (in combination with other cleaning, and replacing the washable pre-filter) gave our DC18 a new lease on life!

Dyson's Lifetime Filter Actually Needs Periodic Replacement
An exact replacement HEPA filter for the original Dyson filter. When I read on a forum that the "lifetime" Dyson HEPA filter wasn't really good for a lifetime, I ordered this genuine Dyson replacement filter. I was amazed at how filthy the "lifetime" filter on my machine was when I removed it for replacement ... the people in the forums who said the original filter would be gross were correct. After replacing the dirty filter with this new one my machine not only ran cooler, it is also noticeably cleaner -- the new filter eliminated a musty smell that obviously was from the dirty filter.

A must have!
I have a Dyson DC18 and I've had it for years. I know the filter is suppose to be a lifetime filter but it's not. I bought this to replace my old filter. Blech! The old filter was so dirty, that it was black! If you haven't changed your filter and it's been years...change it now!

Purpose-made Replacement
Renews the clean air smell while you vacuum. No more wondering what's been stirred up by the vacuum because it isn't filtering anything any more. Despite Dyson's claim that their Hepa filters are "lifetime", they clearly aren't. Worth changing every 3 years or so.

wow this is not permanent!
Just replaced this filter on my dc18 after 5 years, Dyson said was not needed, boy were they wrong. Airflow is so much better, its running cooler. Should have changed it at 2 years I think.

GREAT FILTER
What a difference. I no longer smell dust when I vaccum. I know the filter says lifrtime on it but I would change it once a year.
