While the kit does come with paper templates you can use to place the gems - she preferred to make her own designs. The kit comes with a TON of sticky gems - like 6-7 colors, and each color has both large and small gems to use. The plastic templates are very durable and thick, they do get heavy if you fill the entire thing with gems. The kit al comes with some small double sided tape squares you can use to hang these on the windows. The tape worked well for me - however I haven't tried to take it off yet so I'm not sure how easy it will be to remove. I'd highly recommend for any art lover in your life.
