At the end of the day, this does provide you with a ton of names to consider. It serves its intended purpose. I won't give it 5 stars because I was hoping for something even more comprehensive than I could find for free online. The website Behind the Name is better than this book, in my opinion. This was $10.83 at the time of purchase, and I don't really think it was worth the money. Some of the initial chapters were mildly interesting, like when it talked about naming trends. Other parts seemed like filler content, such as the part about not giving your kid a pet's name such as Rover. I suppose there are very clueless people out there, but if they need a book to tell them not to do that, then poor naming choices are the least of their worries. Last thing I will say is that what I was most excited for was just the full list of names in alphabetical order. I was expecting names to really be listed out, but they opted to lump variants of a name all in together. That's fine when the variant is very similar (like Rosa being lumped under Rose despite them having different language origins), but some almost seem different enough to warrant their own entry (like Rhodia being lumped under Rose). If you were looking for Rhodia, you'd have to already know it meant flower, and deduce that it would be found under Rose. Some real names were absent from the list (Federica as an example, a valid Italian name). While some real names were omitted, there were an astonishing number of "American" names included that were just... bizarre. I'll accept entries like Peaches and Emmylou as believable and verifiable names in use in America. But then there were the entries that were literally just nouns or adjectives that I highly doubt anyone has ever actually used as a name, like Fudge for a girl and Perk for a boy. And there were other names that just seemed completely fabricated. Pedzi, supposedly meaning a golden woman? Fushy, an animated woman? Loey, a daring man, one who is adventurous? I would be very interested to know where the author came across those names, and their meanings. I wondered if they were using American in a very broad sense to include Native American, but there are separate entries for those.

After looking through this book, literally page by page, I realized none of my family members or friends' names were in this book. Just basic, popular names, viz., John, James, Sarah, etc. Then scores of names, written over and over. And then there was very weird words that I can swear no mom in it's right head would name it's kid, viz., Plane, Kiss, Cat, Fork, Ax, etc. Wasn't happy with the purchase.

I get frustrated when people complain there are too many names. I use the book for naming characters in my novels, Naming locations in my novels, and using the names to name non player characters in the RPG games that i run and naming cities and what not. It is so much easier to just open the book at a random page and plopping your finger down on an entry site unseen and there is your name. I think if I were to have a naming book for a baby, this might not be my first choice. There is so much an expetent family is dealing with that have 200,000 names to choose from might be overwhelming. But if you use it for creative endeavors, you CANNOT beat this book to help you name characters and place.

I really love baby names and naming things and name history. This is a great resource for naming all kinds of things, including babies, dogs, and characters. Funnily enough, we were 99% sure of our baby's name before we got this book and we went through many possibilities before settling on our original choice.

So very many names it’s hard to decide. Lot of great categories, with a lot of great ideas of how to create your own name or blend names. They even have the top names that are popular and different countries or by states and many other categories. Definitely a great book with a lot of updated names.

Al ser un libro en inglés la verdad no vienen muchas opciones de nombres en Español no encuentras los típicos Santiago, Roberto o José.. eso no me agradó.
