Bought two and both worked the first time, gophers plugged thereafter presumably due to scent. Tried many things. Help?

If your soil is very sandy, sometimes I find that the gophers plug the light entrance with sand that mostly passes through the trigger plate. I have covered the trigger plates on mine with a fine mesh that seems to fix the problem. A lot of times the gophers just get lucky and outsmart the trapper though.

It seems gopher has bit down on inside mechanism and died. released tension, shaken and tugged. any hints?

That happened to me once only out of about fifty times. Now I make sure some of the bait is in front of the tripper. I use carrot tops and push them through. It was a big gopher thatvdid that! Mi buried it a couple inches and came back a month later. The ants had cleaned most of it off the bone and I was able to pry the skeleton out with a screwdriver and retrieve my trap. I bought another in the meantime so I have two set. Usually I only get one at a time though.

Will this trap work on chipmunks

We recommend the Critter Getter for Chipmunks. The trigger on this trap needs to be "pushed" the Critter Getter trigger works when "pulled" and can be baited.

Does it work good for rats

It didn't work for me with gophers. They just filled it with dirt. But with rats seems like you would have to disguise it and bait it. Rat traps seem easier and less expensive
