Effective, No-Harm Descaler
I've used this product for years to descale my Olympia Cremina without knowing who manufactured it. The espresso machine dealer repackaged it in little envelopes under his own name. Following the machine manufacturer's instructions for descaling is the key. Every machine maker has different recommendations for their product. I've destroyed more than one boiler in other espresso machines I've owned by descaling them with vinegar. I have had no similar problems using Dexcal and following the machine manufacturer's recommendations.

Well worth it on my Breville.
We have been buying this brand for our Breville espresso machine for years. It does do a good job in descaling the machine. I notice it in how well the steamer knob works after using it. My machine is too expensive to experiment with cheaper brands.

Not necessarily better than vinegar
Update: I've compared this to a vinegar a few times now. I actually think vinegar removes more than this. When I run vinegar through my machine, more scale chunks come out than with this stuff. Also, a big issue I've been noticing is that this stuff seems to rip some residue off the plastic parts on my coffee machine. When I run the machine with this - it come out black, which the only black in my machine are the black plastic parts. So I imagine that is what is causing the black water. This has never happened to me with vinegar. I will likely not keep using this once I finish the bottle and switch back to vinegar. I have used vinegar to clean my coffee machine for years. I know some people donโt like it, but Iโve never had any problem. After flushing with water, there is no vinegar smell left over and my machine is clean. I bought this out of curiosity to see how it compared. To test it, I first cleaned my machine with vinegar, and then I ran this through the machine to see if it would remove anything more than the vinegar. It didnโt really. So then I used this later alone to see how much it removed, and it did clean it very well, but I found it to be similar to the vinegar for performance. I do typically run vinegar through my machine 2 to 3 times to get everything out, so the jury is still out on whether this is quicker or not. I did not find in my test that it was. So overall, I think itโs a perfectly fine cleaner, and that it works quite well, Iโm just not convinced itโs anything better than vinegar.

Works great on my Breville machine
This works really great. I have completed descaling successfully, but on second try, since there was really no good instructions. Rather than just descaling the machine, I like to do a full clean, which involves descaling, replacing water filter and then running the cleaning cycle. Here is how I done it: *** DESCALE *** 1. Grab a measuring cup and fill 3.5 oz (75mL) worth of powder. 2. Pull out the reservoir from the espresso machine and fill it to the max line. 3. Now, pour that water into a separate container that you can use to mix the powder with. Use this moment to remove the old water filter and throw it away. 4. Mix the powder until it completely dissolves into the water. There should be no powder floating around. 5. Pour that liquid solution back into the reservoir and place the reservoir back into the espresso machine (yes, without the water filter). 6. We will start the descaling process first. Make sure the machine is powered off. 7. Press and HOLD the 2-cup button, then press and HOLD the power button (you should be holding two buttons now). It will go into descale mode. 8. Once you are in a descale mode, you will see that the power button is flashing. 9. Once it stops flashing, the POWER button, 1 CUP button, CLEAN/DESCALE indicator and HOT WATER/STEAM indicator lights are SOLID (GLOWING). You are ready to descale. 10. Press the 1 CUP button. It will take about 25 seconds to complete its process (you can end the process early by pressing on that button again). Then turn on steam, which should take about 13 seconds to complete the process. Then turn on hot water, which should take about 8 seconds to complete the process. 11. Continue repeating step 11 until the water level reaches the minimum level. *** RINSE/WATER FILTER REPLACEMENT *** 12. At this point, I recommend opening up a new package with water filter and let it soak in water for 5 minutes. 13. While it is soaking, we want to wash the reservoir from the Dezcal solution, and clean it in case it is dirty (the walls and bottom of reservoir gets dirty easily) 14. Once we have finished washing and rinsing the reservoir, and once five minutes passed since the water filter has been soaking, take out the water filter and rinse it for a minute. 15. Install the new water filter into the reservoir and fill up the reservoir with water. 16. Repeat step 10 again to clean the machine of any leftover Dezcal solution (make sure you stop when water goes to minimum). 17. Once the water is at the minimum, we will refill the reservoir and put it back into the espresso machine. 18. Power off the machine to prepare for last cleaning step. *** CLEANING CYCLE *** 19. Grab the portafilter and put the cleaning rubber disk inside the single or double shot filter. (doesn't matter whether it is double wall or normal one) 20. Place the cleaning tablet into the cleaning rubber disk (in the center - there is a dedicated place) 21. While the machine is off, press and hold the 1 CUP, 2 CUP and POWER button simultaneously for three seconds, which will start the cleaning cycle. 22. NOTE: Older Breville machine may have the water coming out of the portafilter. Newer machines do not - they perform a backwash (water comes out into the drip tray) 23. After about five minutes, the machine will do a few beeps. If the tablet did not disolve, then retry this once more. Otherwise, continue to next step. 24. Once cleaning cycle is done, remove the portafilter from the machine and click on the 1 CUP or 2 CUP button to clean off any remaining cleaning tablet solution. 25. Wash the portafilter, and the rubber cleaning disk. You should be done.
