It comes with a pen just like the photo, and it has a pen slot inside the journal.The lock was easy to set, but I recommend not forgetting it, as the instructions to retrieving the password seem impossible.I'm very particular about things, and I absolutely hate the size of this. It's about an inch or two more narrow than the average journal. I didn't have an "average" sized journal to compare it to, so I have it next to a notebook instead.Keep in mind that it's narrower than it looks due to the lock... When it opens, the pages are even narrower.This was the only locked journal I could find anywhere that locks all the way around... With the other ones, if someone REALLY wanted to, they could open it at the edge and read the edges.
