Q: Can this gate be hooked up to a wooden post?

Probably not without some serious engineering modifications to some hardware. Would most likely be quicker and easier and cheaper without the headache of making something work to just put metal fence post next to the wooden post as the gate comes with hardware to attach to metal post. So basically, the cost of metal chain-link fence post would be all you needed, I would suggest cementing the post in the ground as well. 24" deep since the gate will be a load on the post.

Q: What pin size for the needed post hinge?

The hole measures 5/8". I tried it on a standard post hinge from Lowes and it was a little small, so i changed the gate hinge to the standard from Lowes. Hope this helps

Q: If I order one at $102 why does two of them cost $242

I have not ordered the double so I do not know for sure but my best guess would be that a double gate requires slightly different latch/hinge hardware so that could be why. The price difference is an extra $38 and I know at my local big box store to purchase the double gate hardware by itself costs $36 and change.
