I purchased 12 Major World Religions: The Beliefs, Rituals, and Traditions of Humanity's Most Influential Faiths both out of personal interest and to support my lesson planning for middle school History. The book has proven to be an invaluable resource, particularly when teaching about religions of ancient cultures of the eastern hemisphere. The content is well-researched, balanced, and written in a clear and engaging style, making it easy to understand and reference. Its thoughtful organization allows for quick access to specific information, which is perfect for educators needing to design lessons or clarify details for students. What I appreciate most is how the book presents each religion with respect and accuracy, highlighting the unique beliefs, rituals, and traditions of each faith without bias. This approach fosters cultural understanding and helps grasp the historical and modern significance of these religions. This is an excellent resource. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed the high level summary of several major religions of the world. I thought it was a good overview that covered the basics. In a world that can be deeply divided, it is important to understand where other people are coming from.

This is an absolutely readable book and I quite enjoyed reading it. There were some obscure nuggets of info that I didn't before on some items; all in all I'd recommend the book to someone who is completely ignorant of the subject. Is it the best work out there? No! However, a book with more meat and substance would be quite scholarly with costs to match. Coming from where I do, the subject of Hinduism, Jainism, and Islam was, in my opinion, somewhat watered down; probably to appeal to it's, assumedly, intended audience, the American Christian reader. For example, the subject of untouchability is not handled at all -- which was a big disappointment. Another case in point, Muharram -- it is a major cause of discontent between Shiites and Sunnis. In essence, the book has steered clear of anything controversial or negative. The highlight of the book is that, as much as is humanly possible, the subject matters within each religion/sect is arranged evenly. So, whether you are reading about Buddhism, or Judaism, you will encounter a similar flow of content.

Great way to compare different religions and learn about their history. I find myself referring to different areas. In this world everyone should take a moment to explore this topic so they can learn how differences and similarities make us all human. Loved the layout of this book as well.

I just finished teaching the Comparative Religions class I designed for the first time. I chose Jason Boyett's book, "12 Major World Religions", as our textbook...which I recommend to you highly. I have never had so many students tell me that they plan to keep a book and share it with their friends. It's informative, engaging, and just all-around well-written. If you want to understand everything from other people to world events better, a working understanding of the world's religions is indispensable, and this book is a great (and enjoyable) tool to help you do that.

Most books I buy for my writing I sell after I get what information I need but this one is staying on the book shelf! Love this book!

This book is great in the way the author breaks down each religion and the traditions and beliefs. I thought it was exactly what I was looking for for a general description of the various religions. However, there are areas in which the author inserts his options, and was too direct as such. I was very disappointed and will be returning this book. It would have been a great reference otherwise.

After reading this book, you will understand how connected we all are in the commonalities of our faiths, beliefs and values. We share and build on each other, making me wonder why we only see our differences. It would be an excellent primer for all seminaries and religious teaching. Although indigenous belief systems are not included, it is apparent to those who have studied or practiced that we all share the wisdom of creation, nature and the universe.

The religious teachings, beliefs and way of life for the 12 major religions practiced by those adherents is thought provoking and challenging to the whole of western civilization. Each religion presents itself with it's own coded language , moral guidance , communal memories , ontological ideas and metaphysical constructs. Who is leading these religious paths? Do we have to conclude that there is a general truth to each religion? What does the West say in response to the multi-religious life styles of humanity? Are we really inherently good? How do we communicate the symbols of goodness , joy, kindness, compassion, gentleness, patience , love, faith, peacefulness and self control to our neighbours? The message of Jesus is universal and true when he told his followers do to others what you would have them do to you.
