It's enough to store multiple straps, rigging, etc. I'll drill some weep holes in the bottom to promote drainage if I put away anything wet, or of water gets in during a car wash. The hinge and latch seem really handy but I am concerned about the hinge/bracket bending under weight over time. Also, hese stick out more than the wheel wells.
