The illustrations are whimsical but beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the illustrations that are presented from a different prespective...i.e: A large close-up of Milton's head; layered drawings of Milton's fears being expressed in his dreams and progressively expanding in size until they are overwhelming. I feel that one of the strongest points of this book is that it powerfully illustrates the concepts of fear and overactive thinking via its colorful and engaging artwork. I also like the way it Milton's sleeping dreams to help him work through his daytime conflcicts that were being duplicated in his dreams Review: Amazing and Helpful - Recently my nine-year-old son has begun exhibiting OCD behavior, specifically excessive hand washing and fear of germs. I had him read this book one day when he was having an anxiety spike and it helped him to calm down. It obviously didn't cure him or end all his perceived problems, but it did help him in that moment and I think will continue to as he reads it again. He even used what he had learned in the book later in the week to help calm himself down when he began to get anxious over something else. It is an excellent book for introducing children to the power of now and I would recommend it to anyone, anxiety issues or not.

amazing message, and kept my son's interest
5 y/o son stayed tuned in for the whole story. He has referenced what he learned in the book multiple times already -- and I learned a new mindfulness technique, myself! It was more than I expected, as far as the artwork, the message being made so kid-friendly, the story being easily followed by my son. I have recommended this book to several people already because of how valuable I found it to be. Based on the kids I know, I'd guess this would be a good book for 5-9 yrs. And for grownups ;)

Great Intro to the Power of Now, But a Bit Wordy
Eckhart and friends deserve credit for creating one of the few non-denominational spiritual books out there for children. Anyone interested in mindfulness, and OK with discussions of 'light' as opposed 'God', will appreciate this book. I did find it a bit wordy and overly philosophical/intellectual at points - trying too hard perhaps to be true to Eckhart's adult teachings - but that is a minor flaw. My only other comment is that it is classified for 4-8 year olds, but I would say it is best for the upper end of that age range, probably 7-10. My four-year old is pretty mature, but this was a bit too wordy for her to follow, the plot required a lot of explanation (she doesn't know what a bully is, or a sixth-grader for that matter), and the concepts of When, Then, and Now were difficult. It did engender discussion of what it means to be 'in the now' however, and I look forward to reading it to her more when she is older.

Bullying prevention and help
This is a lovely book that a teacher introduced in second grade and some of the kids like my daughter loved it. It is written very carefully addressed to children, but people of any age can enjoy it because of the deep sense of humanity in it. The illustrations are beautiful, as well and this is my second copy. We gave our copy in Spanish as a gift to a friend whose son suffered from bullying and we could not find another copy until now. Very recommended for teachers and parents, and for everyone who enjoys reading.

This book helps kids deal with stress and anxiety !
Although this book is a bit lengthy, even my 4 year old granddaughter stayed with it and its meaning. Which is... how to deal with stressful situations and how to avoid anxiety. This is fundamental for today's kids as they deal with bullying and difficult to handle situations. What else would you expect from Eckhart Tolle, though. He is an amazing spiritual teacher.

ELI 5 approach
This books could be re-labeled and marketed for adults as "Explain enlightenment like I am 5". As silly as that sounds, this children story can be very powerful. That being said, it does not explore any new topic that has not already been exhaustively explored in any of the other Eckhart Tolle's books, instead what you will get obviously is an approach that is very ridiculously simple. You won't leave knowing anything more than you what already do, but you will leave feeling that you've learned something. The price is steep if you compare it to other books... so don't do that... just buy it.

I do like it but I don't feel it conveys the secret ...
I do like it but I don't feel it conveys the secret of the "power of now" with my added comments and questions we (my two boys and I) benifit from it. But I think it can and should be done in a better way. It'a too wordey for my 4 year old and could've been longer if it were a siplified chapter book for 7+ year olds.

Not compatible with my kindle, it is not possible to read some pages. Letter size keeps on changing and the one integrated in drawings are too small

I ordered this book for my 7 years old son who is a ferocious reader. I wasn't sure if he would understand it much. He read it and did not talk about it as such. Today my husband lost his phone which he had bought only recently and was mighty upset about it. When my son saw his father all sad and sulking, he said to him " Papa, it's past, it's gone...don't be sad about it now. Let's enjoy the present. Do not think about what was, we should think about what we have now". :). He might not have understood all of it yet but I am so happy that he understood the crux and applied it where he could.

Milton's secret is a thought provoking children's story that guides the young reader towards an important message, without spelling it out completely for them in the end. I thought this was a great approach as the lesson learned would have a more lasting impact on my child once she had figured it out for herself, as opposed to reading it straight from the page. The story was good but the lesson and its delivery were outstanding.

My son (7) has some issues with anger and this book is great in terms of helping him understand feelings and how to address unhealthy reactions. “I think I was in the now today” he says now and again 😊 Lovely story. Beautiful drawings.
