‘Superb coffee table book’ – Nintendo Life ‘A fun read’ – Retro Gamer Take a trip down memory lane with Retro Gaming , and relive the glory days (and not so glory days) of your old retro tech favourites. Published in paperback to tie-in with 50 years of console gaming , Retro Gaming is packed with all the characters, games, consoles and franchises you used to love – and probably still do. This is a compact, conversational compendium of all-time highs – alongside just a handful of humorous (in hindsight) lows – from decades of arcade, computer, console and handheld hits. From Atari ’s early arcade classics and home games consoles of the 1970s, through to classics that keep on giving, such as Halo and Tomb Raider , this book summarizes the significant releases, research and revolutions that have made video games a £100 billion (and rising) industry. Evergreen favourites from Nintendo , SEGA and Sony are present and correct – no collection would be complete without entries for Mario and Sonic , Tetris and Crash Bandicoot . But we also give credit to the less-celebrated but utterly vital titles, characters, controllers and systems that have helped the world of gaming expand and evolve. A guide, a companion and a window onto a joyous past, Retro Gaming is a perfect book to dip in and out of, as mood and your current gaming habits dictate. Good gift for retro gamers
I bought this as a gift for a friend who used to play on the old games consoles. As soon as it was delivered I ended up looking through it myself before giving it as a gift. It's a good book, with lots of pictures and really brings back memories of the old games and consoles.

Good value book
Was a christmas present for my brother who is in his 40’s, he enjoyed the book. Came slightly damaged on front cover - bit annoying but probably a one off. Would still recommend book though!

Nice little book but not essential
I got this book for myself as I used to have a game and watch and game consoles during the 80s and 90s. It's a nice looking book with plenty of colours and images. For the price you get a decent little read, but there were a few missing items I would have liked to have seen. It's not an essential book but it's worth having for around £6.

Awesome book
My ten year old son adored this book. Some folks from the podcast Besties recommended it and I know it would be a hit. Great photos, fun facts. This is a must have for anyone who’s into retro gaming.

Leaving out key informations, poor choice of games
The book is mediocre, not more, not less. It's for example completely omitting the first video game by W. Higinbotham (Tennis for Two) and there are some strange informations as well. For example telling that ST and Amiga were technically on par is not exactly right, the ST had a Midi-port while the Amiga had specialized chips like Agnus and Denise that made a huge difference. It was Nintendo who first used shoulder buttons on the SNES-pad, not Sony. Looking into games for example Moonstone was fun but not that important to gaming history, and it surely was not a RPG. The author's view is very british, showing in his praise for Sir Clive Sinclair and british gaming studios like Ocean, who just left a smaller impression regarding the rest of the world ...I could go on. Therefore the book is a nice read if you already know your stuff about gaming history and recognize the errors, but not a book for beginners. The should get another book, like the Ultimate History of Video Games by Steven Kent for example, which is not much more expensive.
