Q: Is it based on magnetic north or true north? i have been looking for the magnetic north-based without success.

All Luo Pan compasses are magnetic. (To get true north you need to either use a GPS compass or make the compensation for declination. The declination compensation changes over time, suggest you Google for explanation. Feng Shui, to my knowledge does not use true north.) You should be good with this compass.
