Lucas Oil 10278 Engine Oil Stop Leak - 1 Quart

Even though I’m long retired from driving kids to school, I still baby my old sedan. My son suggested this Lucas stop leak as a gift after he saw the oil spots on my driveway. I poured it in after an oil change and checked a week later. The little puddles were gone, which made me very glad.

Amazing product! My older car had a persistent rear main seal leak and was burning oil. After adding this during the last oil change, the dripping has completely stopped and the engine runs much quieter. Highly recommend giving it a try before spending money on expensive repairs.

Wearing it during my last oil change made a noticeable difference. I traveled a few hundred miles and inspected the drip pan. Initially, there was a small amount of oil, but it remained dry the rest of the time. It seems to do a decent job of preventing leaks around the filter. I'm happy I decided to try it out.

Once my old Subaru started leaving little oil spots at the trailhead, I grabbed this Lucas stop leak so I wouldn’t be topping off before every weekend hike. I poured the whole quart in during an oil change and drove my usual mountain loop the next morning. after two trips out to the state park, the spots in my driveway were way smaller and I’m barely adding oil now. That made me really glad I tried it before saving for a full seal job. It thickens things up just enough and the engine still feels smooth on long uphill climbs. I keep a spare bottle in the back next to my trekking poles.

I have a car with 180k miles on the ODO. The valve cover was leaking but it was not a major problem so I thought this might be a quick fix. To lend some perspective, my leak was not bad enough to leave drops on the floor but one bank of cylinders (it is a V6) clearly showed oil leaking and I could smell it when I parked my garage. I use 5w30 weight Mobil-1 and my car is a 2004 Lexus ES330. I really did not want to remove the valve cover to replace the gasket so I thought this might work especially since there were so many favorable reviews. Be warned, this stuff is like "motor honey." It is very very thick. One bottle went into the crankcase and after 6000 miles I degreased the engine and checked the aluminum head; sadly there was no change and fresh oil is still seeping from the valve cover gasket. Basically, it did nothing for my leak. I worry about the effect of using such a thick compound in the crankcase so I probably won't buy it again. I might work for very small leaks but the lesson here is that there is no quick cheap fix for mechanical wear and tear. Given the high viscosity, I would not recommend it for modern cars that use light weight 0w20 or fuel saving motor oil.

After another long night shift, I noticed a few fresh oil spots under my old Honda and got tired of worrying about it. I tried this Lucas stop leak and within a couple of days the drips on my driveway were way less. I like that I just pour it in with my regular oil change and forget it.
