The Snowball (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1)

A Fun Early Reader
I bought THE SNOWBALL because it was on my kindergartener's reading list for school. It's a fun, rhyming story about a runaway snowball. This is a Step 1 book in the Random House Step Into Reading series. It's meant for pre-K-K with simple words, large type, and rhyming sentences. This book is easy to read and allows my kids to use the reading skills they are learning in school with books we have at home. The illustrations are fun and colorful and I can't wait to turn the page to see what that snowball picks up next. Unfortunately, my kids can. They only read this book when I asked them to and never chose to read it on their own.THE SNOWBALL is a nice book and a break from the princess and car books that are so popular at my house.

Step 1 readers increase children's confidence in reading
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. The story here is of a young girl who witnesses a snowball rolling down a hill, picking up almost everything in its path along the way! The story is fun and hilarious and had my daughter laughing as she read! These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read, e.g. "I saw a snowball on a hill. It rolled along and picked up Bill!" The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.

this is not a useful book for teaching a child to read
this is not a useful book for teaching a child to read. Step into reading, learning to read implies that the words are such that a child who is learning to read can sound out the words and slowly build the child's vocabulary and confidence. "Quick" and "smashed" do not belong in a step into reading book. Buy the Bob books if you want to teach a child to read.

I love the step one books
I love the step one books, they are perfect for my 5 year old learning to read. There aren't too many words so they are great for very early readers. These books are easier than the others that are level 1. The price is great so I'm able to order several at a time so he isn't just memorizing the stories, we can read different ones every day.

Very Enjoyable
Great book for beginning readers. Easy also because it rhymes which I think helps children learn to read words that would otherwise be more difficult to sound out. The book is funny and entertaining.

Cute book
It was a cute book. I would recommend it to others who have children learning to read. For my 6 year old that is learning to read some of the words were a little tough at first but she is getting it and the story is okay with cute little illustrations.
