It’s the perfect hardware-mounted gate to use at the top of stairs, in hallways or doorways. The safety gate is adjustable, fits openings 28.68 to 47.85 inches wide, and is 31 inches tall. This kids safety gate has a sturdy steel metal construction and decorative matte bronze finish that complements any home decor. Constructed to withstand rigorous day in, day out use. Our large baby gate is equipped with one-hand operation. To open the gate, simply press the upper latch button with your thumb and lift the latch spindle out of the cup, then push or pull the gate open. Review: Favorite Baby Gate - This has been our favorite baby gate by far it has an easy one-hand opening feature, but is challenging for toddlers. I do wish it auto closed, but all the other features make up for it. You can set it up to swing whichever way you want, it's easy for an adult to take on and off the wall if you need to move it out of the way (so not retractable, but removable and easy to pop on and off as needed). It's also width adjustable to fit your opening. My favorite feature though, is that it has no trip bar at the bottom - which is needed if it's at the top of the stairs, and definitely a nice feature to have anywhere else. It's been very high quality and feels very stable. We have one that's still going strong after 3 years. We've also bought others in that time. I will never buy a different baby gate again!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between the Series 1 design and the Series 2 design of this gate? Have the plastic latches been upgraded?**
A: Thank you for your question. While the two models are very similar, the latching system has been redesigned on model 5050.  They both still function in the same manner where the latch can easily be depressed with one thumb, however, the “gate stopper”  associated with the direction that the door opens is now an internal function instead of it being its own separate part.

**Q: is it possible to remove one of the bars/spindles from the hinge end of the gate to accommodate a handrail?**
A: Thank you for your question. All 4 spindles are needed to properly mount the gate safely. Additionally, the metal bars are welded and should not be removed.  This will increase the spacing between the bars and poses a safety hazard.  A child or pet could easily become entrapped.  The distance between the bars meets JPMA and ASTM standards and should not be increased.  It should not be altered or mounted in any manner other than what is outlined in the installation manual.

**Q: Can a 3 yr old open this? I need something she can open to keep our puppy out of her room.**
A: Thank you for your email.  Because every child is different, we cannot say with certainty whether or not your 3 year old would be able to open the gate.  While our products are intended to be used to protect children ages 6-24 months, this is based on average development.  To open the gate, it does require depressing the tab on the latch and then physically lifting the gate frame to clear the latch receptacle prior to swinging open.

**Q: How do i order a replacement upper latch and lower latch**
A: I no longer have the booklet an need to replace the latch.  I could use any help. Thank you!

This has been our favorite baby gate by far it has an easy one-hand opening feature, but is challenging for toddlers. I do wish it auto closed, but all the other features make up for it. You can set it up to swing whichever way you want, it's easy for an adult to take on and off the wall if you need to move it out of the way (so not retractable, but removable and easy to pop on and off as needed). It's also width adjustable to fit your opening.
