Not mandatory, but essential
It is as I said in the title. The core game offers plenty to enjoy, but Tides of Ruin will an essential expansion for those who really loved the game.

Must have expansion for Sleeping Gods
Tides of Ruins is a must have expansion that completes the open world map of Sleeping Gpds and also introduces more good stuff like totems, events and items. Definitely get this for the complete version of the game (get this over dungeons).

Additional quests and monsters for the Sleeping God's base game
Tides Of Ruin is the perfect addition to the base game if you really love keeping God's. TOR adds tons up on tons of additional content such as new monsters, engaging quests and adventure cards. TOR also comes with another atlas that will carry the Manticore to far off places with additional story. The art is very engaging and the rules stay the same. To put it simply, this expansion is just more content to Sleeping God's. The value is great for all the new content you get in the box. There is also an arcade mode, not my favorite, but if you want to just battle monsters and skip the story, this is for you. I have about 10 playthroughs with this game and still haven't found everything. There is no new rules or characters in the TOR expansion, it's literally muchore of what you already have in Sleeping God's. It is well worth it if you just want additional material for the base game. This expansion cannot be used in the Distant Skies game. I hope this helps. This is one of my all time favorite board games.
