Accurate, good for deep pots, TAKE OFF RUBBER TIP
Key points: easy to read for its size, solid construction seems durable, speed to temperature is pretty fast but obviously not as fast as an instant read, length good for deep pots, can also be used as a meat thermometer in a pinch. Though I would prefer instant read for meats. Taking off the red rubber tip may seem obvious, but I have a feeling that the people saying itโs not accurate are accidentally leaving it on. I tested the accuracy with boiling water and it sat right at 212ยฐ. So it is highly accurate. Also, make sure the tip of the probe sits approximately halfway between the top of the liquid and the bottom of pan.

Happy with purchase
I just purchased this to make fried Bang- Bang shrimp. I am not used to frying. I needed the oil temp to be 330 degree before putting in the shrimp. So it worked ! My husband boiled the water to boiling to test it as recommended and it was accurate and did not have to adjust it ( as instructed) It was water proof and seemed to work well and durable .

Set the calibration!
So far, so good; BUT: it was over 20 degrees F off! Luckily the calibration instructions were easy to follow, and it adjusts easily.

Works great
Exactly what I needed for making my maple syrup. Much more reliable than the digital one that I had to hold and burn my fingers โฆlol

worked only in water, not in oil, kept tipping
So I own a handheld digital thermometer which I love, but making fried chicken in oil is a pain if I have to keep checking the temp by hand. SO I got this to be able to clip it to the side of the pan and be able to see what the temp is when I add and cook my chicken. First of all, I did test it in a pot of boiling water and it was pretty accurate. However, when I put it in the hot oil, it never registered above 200 degrees no matter how I adjusted it, how deep I put it in the oil. SO I tested it again in boiling water, and again it worked fine in water. The problem for me is that it is useless if it doesn't work in oil. I can TELL if water is boiling, I don't need a thermometer for that. I needed one that sits on my pan side and tells me when my oil is hot enough to cook. Anyone who fries food in oil knows that when you add food to the oil, it lower the temp of the oil so you have to watch it closely and sometime up the heat to get the oil hot enough again, then lower the heat. Also, about half way through my first time using it, it kept sliding to the side when I clipped it to my pan. Not good when trying to place chicken in oil to have to keep straightening up the thermometer so it doesn't end up sideways in the oil. This has great reviews but it just doesn't work well for me. I do make candy and fudge in the fall and winter holidays, hopefully this will work better for those items. I am keeping it for that reason, but I can honestly say that I can't recommend this item. The seller shipped this quickly, and it was well wrapped and boxed so my problem is not with the seller, just with the quality of this item.

Disappointed
I used this once when i bought it a year ago. Reached for it recently and found it to be broken. The stem was completely snapped away from the body. It was in my kitchen drawer and obviously too fragile.

Not properly calibrated.
The ad shows it as coming in a box. Mine came loose in an Amazon envelope and no instructions. Arrow is not on zero but instead is on 22 degrees. No way to calibrate it. If you want your liquid to be 350 degrees I suppose you would have to wait until the arrow points to 372 degrees. Guess I'll have to forego the dollars spent on this and purchase a better one.
