These Are The Best!!
The house I moved into had these installed.. I had never seen them before, but I'm glad I learned about them because they are my favorite locks now. You can put them at any height, they are easy to install, you don't have to line up two pieces - this only screws into the door frame and not the door. At a glance they look like they'd be flimsy but they are incredibly sturdy and strong and add an extra layer of security to the door. It is relatively small, and lightweight, around 2" or so, and it's a good option if you are trying to deter kids since your can put it up high To unlock it you just slide it up a bit and fold it back and forth like a door. I'm not sure how well it would withstand someone kicking in a door, but I have added it to all of my doors for extra security.

I was pretty skeptical, as all of the other products that ...
So I went the rounds on other products before I settled on this simple solution that ultimately was the only one that met our need. The goal was to keep our 3 year old in our house. We were able to use doorknob covers for 2 of our external doors, but our patio door has a handle-type opener and couldn't accommodate a knob cover. The door also couldn't be converted to a knob due to the custom opener / deadbolt system that was installed. Our problem was that the door is slightly offset from the wall and other products proved to be too bulky to allow the door to function after installation. I briefly gave up on finding a solution, but my son later escaped and had to be chased by my wife for several blocks before she was able to catch him. (The boy gives new meaning to the term "stinker") I went back to the drawing board and found this product. I was pretty skeptical, as all of the other products that I had tried were far more complex and much more expensive. I was very pleased to find that the product worked great and installation was a 2 minute process. Now my son is safely contained to terrorize my wife in the comfort of our home and we no longer have to worry about him carrying committing acts of terrorism to the neighborhood at large. It has been several months and he hasn't gotten out yet. (well in all honesty, he did get out once, but that involved a perfect storm of chairs and broom handles and luck, and tiny devious ninja skills. We confiscated the ninja tools (broom handle) and he was back to being foiled. House, thy name is Alcatraz. Thank you for making a product that is as simple as it is effective.

Best I've Seen
This lock is working well for me to keep my child from accidentally opening a basement door. There are some things to keep in mind, though. One, put this high. I just found out today that my two-year-old knows how to open it. I was holding him near the door to see if he could figure it out and he did. It's very easy to unlock this clasp, as you just have to push the plate slightly up while pulling it towards you. If a child can use a chair or something else to reach it, they could beat it. There's nothing he can move in my house that will let him even get close to reaching mine, though. Two, the screws that come with the product are junk, as has been stated. Even with little torque, mine both were eaten by the drill bit. I put two of my own in without a problem, though. Remember to keep the tiny little screw, though, if you ever want to permanently unlock the product. Me, I'll just remove it when it no longer serves a function, but it's good to have the option in case you need to leave it in place but don't want to bother with it all the time. Three, make your install easy. Close the door you're putting it on, hold it in place in the locked position, then open your door, put the lock up and screw it in. You'll want to actually see it in place before attaching it because if the plate can't lock into position, you'll have to take it down and screw it in all over again. So far, I'm glad I've gotten this rather than the plastic "globes" you put over doorknobs. When I first put this on, I forgot about it and tried opening the door and it stopped me. At that point, just to see, I tried opening it with more pressure and it held. Looks like it'll stop my kid even if he really tries to open the door. UPDATE April 12, 2012: I'm buying a second one tonight for my front door. This has worked out well for these past few months and kept the little one from being able to open the door to the basement, but he's now able to open the front door, so one is going there as well.

Spend a few dollars more for something that works
We got it to keep a child from escaping the house. It took about an hour to install because the screws are made of soft metal and immediately got stripped so the screwdriver could no longer grip them. After scouring the house for spare screws or approximately the same size we got it secured to the door. Finally, after the frustration of dealing with it for so much longer than should have been necessary, we turned the latch so it fell into the notch and tested opening the door. It opened right up! The notch is so shallow and rounded that the gentlest pressure against it from the door lifts the latch right out and it opens with virtually no resistance. What a piece of junk this is! Angry at ourselves for trying to save a few dollars when the security and safety of a child were on the line, we immediately ordered a higher quality door lock. Sure, it was about $10 more, but it installed within 5 minutes and most importantly, it prevents the door from opening! The peace of mind of knowing no young children will be escaping or opening the door for strangers is worth the extra cost. Avoid this cheap piece of junk! It's going in the garbage where it belongs.

If you need a different type of lock, not a normal one this is the place to get it
This is important my friend Dad has a problem eating at night and he wouldnโt listen to anybody and just lock changed the game now he goes to bed early. Heโs more quiet and theyโre saving money on food so this lock is exactly what they were looking for itโs not a normal lock and thatโs what I wanted because he canโt. He canโt register it from a familiar lock. Thatโs why it works good

One Good One, One Bad One
I've been using one of these locks for many years, to child-lock a closet door, and it always works well. So I bought another one, and it barely works at all. The latch doesn't easily drop into place to lock, I can pull the door when it is in "lock" position and the latch will open. The pieces aren't well aligned, and globs of paint make it even more difficult for the latch to fall into place.

Good Alzheimer's wander guard.
Good product. Simple use simple install. Particularily good if your door is inset in a particularily deep door frame like mine and you dont have much clearance for other unit. Used this as a door lock to keep my father with alzheimers from wondering outside. Its simple to use but will confound someone with dementia.

It works and it's way less expensive than most other child door locks!
So easy to use, very secure. It not only keeps our toddler from escaping but it's added security to our home. I'm ordering another one for our back door tonight!

Easy to install
Using it for babyproofing the house. Easy to install, small and discrete. Much more convenient than those big clunky handle guards. However, you do need to jiggle it a bit to flip it open. The mechanism is not very smoothe. Note: you can only use this on doors that swing towards you (ie. hallway closets, door to basement etc)

Doesn't lock from outside door
Not what i thought was hoping for a room lock to keep my 3 year on her room as she knows how to open door knob locks, p but only locks from inside so cant get out so not what i wanted but will work on the front door.

Product Defective
As I was not able to get this product from any store in my area, I ordered 2 at the end of October. Although very easy to install neither one of them worked properly from the get go. On both locks, the flip portion would not seat into the slots provided so they would actually lock. No matter what I tried they just would not work. It is very disappointing because they are compact, unobtrusive looking on the door and would be easy to use if they actually worked. However, I would not risk ordering them again.
