Yummy, potent, and quality matcha powder for a good price
This matcha has a strong and yummy flavor, nice color, and a good texture that’s easy to mix. I’ve had matcha thats impossible to get the lumps out when mixing it into water, but this one dissolves really easily. I’ve ordered this brand a bunch of time and will continue to do so. The bag is resealable, and each time it comes with its own little scoop, which makes it so easy to measure a serving, and also less dishes haha. If you can’t find the scoop just dig for it, and if you do use your own spoon, just make sure to check the serving size; I’ve noticed a lot of matchas are different strengths- some use one or two tablespoons, others (like this one) only a teaspoon. Since this one is a small serving size and still has a potent flavor, the bag lasts me a long time! Lastly, when I drink it, I find I have energy all day long!! As compared to coffee (which I do love) where the energy seems to fade off more quickly leaving me sleepy. I mostly put it in smoothies, lattes, and pancakes. I’d recommend this matcha to anyone! It’s good quality and a good price 🍵

One thing for sure, long shelf life
Got this a while ago, but finished my other batch and just getting into this new brand since the previous brand is NLA. So far, so good. It has a good shelf life unopened--at least 3 months. The flavor is quite good, particularly with fresh sage leaf in it. The price quite reasonable too. Unlike other varieties that either don't seal correctly from the get-go or fail to seal over time, the resealable bag is maintaining its integrity. If this company stays in business, I plan to reorder. Super price for a Superfood!
This is good grade matcha at an excellent price. Matcha is a wonderful choice for those mindful of their health; unlike other types of tea (green or any other) that is simply infused with the tea leaves possibly long after the plant was cut, decreasing nutriients, but with matcha, you’re drinking the actual leaves getting all of the nutrition. This miracle elixir has been consumed for over a millennium in the Far East, and is now considered to be one of the most powerful super foods on the market today for good reason! I put a tsp of matcha powder in my morning smoothie every single day, and if I miss a day I can really feel the difference in concentration, energy, and vitality. I love it for all of the protective health benefits, too. No wonder the Japanese are the longest living people on the planet! The health benefits of matcha are many: 1)Matcha is highly antioxidant, one tsp. provides over 5 times as many antioxidants as any other food – the highest rated by the ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) method. 2) Matcha is scientifically proven to prevent prostate cancer (and no doubt most other types) because it is high in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg). Out of all the antioxidants, EGCg is the most widely recognized for its cancer fighting properties. Scientists have found that Matcha Green Tea contains over 100 times more EGCg than any other tea on the market 3)Chinese Daoists and Japanese Zen Buddhist monks as a means to relax and meditate while remaining alert. Now we know that this higher state of consciousness is due to the amino acid L-Theanine contained in the leaves used to make Matcha. L-Theanine promotes the production of alpha waves in the brain which induces relaxation; 4) Another effect of L-Theanine is the production of dopamine and serotonin. These two chemicals serve to enhance mood, improve memory, and promote better concentration 5) Increases energy more efficiently than coffee: Samurai, the noble warriors of medieval and early-modern Japan, drank Matcha Green Tea before going into battle due to the tea’s energizing properties. While all green tea naturally contains caffeine, the energy boost received from Matcha is largely due to its unique combination of other nutrients. The increased endurance from a bowl of Matcha Green Tea can last up to 6 hours and because of the effects of L-Theanine, Matcha drinkers experience none of the usual side-effects of stimulants such as nervousness and hypertension. It’s good, clean energy! 6) Helps weight loss. Drinking Matcha Green Tea has also been shown to increase metabolism and help the body burn fat about four times faster than average. Again, unlike many diet aides currently on the market, Matcha causes no negative side-effects such as increased heart rate and high blood pressure. 7) Improves immune system. The catechins in Matcha Green Tea have been shown to have antibiotic properties which promote overall health. Additionally, just one bowl of Matcha Green Tea provides substantial quantities of Potassium, Vitamins A & C, Iron, Protein, and Calcium. Further studies have even suggested that the nutrients in Matcha may have the ability to inhibit the attacks of HIV on human T-cells. 8) Detoxifies. The high levels of chlorophyll in Matcha Green Tea not only give this tea its beautiful vibrant green color. Matcha is also a powerful detoxifier capable of naturally removing heavy metals and chemical toxins from the body. 9 )Lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) and raised HDL (good cholesterol). Matcha Green Tea has a positive effect on cholesterol, studies of different populations have show that people who drink Match Green Tea on a regular basis have lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol while at the same time displaying higher levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. Men who drink Matcha Green Tea are about 11% less likely to develop heart disease than those who don’t drink Matcha. I am so glad that I found this certified organic matcha at such a great price! I am a regular customer, and will be for life!!

Starter Grade Matcha from RTL
Red Tea Leaf (seller and distributor) seems to have dozens of mixed-in flavor versions of matcha tea on their website, and their Starter Grade seems to be equal to this particular listed product on Amazon. Price is better here for that product, but they don't list the other five major classes of pure matcha they usually sell (Classic, Royal, Imperial, Connoiseurs, Emperors, in ascending order of quality, and accordingly, price.) As others have mentioned, top-grade will be $30-40/oz. and quite different in terms of what beverage it produces. RTL sells all of the above, but the flavors all start with Classic grade, not Starter - which is what is listed here at 1/20th the price. This basic version is simply finely powdered green tea - similar to what would happen if you had a razor-sharp food mill capable of powderizing plain whole leaf green tea. You get a product with quite a bit of fiber, but for smoothies, and an instant iced green tea, it works fine. It just isn't that different from cold-brewing a pitcher of green tea using the leaves whole, just a little quicker to use (and oxidizes quickly, so keep it sealed and away from light and heat.) The nicer grades start with removing a lot of the stem and leaf vein fiber before grinding. Then each grind is carefully filtered to remove larger particles until a pure green tea cellular dust is produced. Finer grades involve careful aging and drying of the leaves before processing which can take months/years to get the flavors intense and deep (much like wine grapes.) If you purchase a small amount of a higher grade product and dump it in cold water exactly like you would this version, the taste difference is detectable, but probably unremarkable. Usually I find it tastes fresher, more intense, and has a little more "zip" to the flavor, with a very clear and clean aftertaste. However, if you start actually following tea ceremony practice ritual, even the basics with the fluffy bamboo brush and pure soft water (even distilled or rain), and use the significantly higher proportions used for ceremonies (1tsp/2-3ozs water, versus iced when I use maybe 1tsp/16ozs), there is an unmistakeable difference in qualities, foam, density of flavor, aroma, aftertastes, etc. But...this is a decent 100% leaf fine grind, perfectly okay for iced tea, smoothies, lattes, cooking, baking, or sprinkling on anything you like to try adding some anti-oxidant boost to (or for making things naturally green colored, like ice creams, or St. Patricks day baked goods.)

Just Like Ceremonial Tea in Japan
I spent a long time agonising over which matcha to buy because I've read a lot of negative comments about what's "real" matcha and how it's supposed to taste. Since I lived in Japan and went to tea ceremony once a week as part of my university's (Chubu Daigaku) culture classes, I'm very familiar with the taste and colour. I also was invited to various friend's houses for matcha, and had it in many different cities, from Kyoto, Tokyo, and Osaka, to Kasugai, Nagoya, and Hiroshima, at temples and shrines, high schools, and traditional hotels and spas. I've had it prepared in a village that still lives as though they are Edo time. I've had it probably well over a hundred times. I think a lot of others are quite confused. First of all, even in Japan, not many tea houses serve the really high end ceremonial grade. They can't afford to do so. Most often you're going to get middle grade stuff, and only pull out the expensive stuff for very special occasions. It seems like people online think you can only get the real benefits and you're only drinking "real" matcha if it costs 100 bucks an ounce, or something. This powder is a great, great bargain. It tastes EXACTLY like the matcha I had on a regular basis in Japan. The colour is a bit darker than some of the preparations I've had, but the smell and taste are dead on. Matcha is *supposed* to be bitter and earthy--that's why they serve it with an overly sweet cake to help counter the taste. It is definitely an acquired taste, but just because you don't like it doesn't mean this isn't good quality stuff. I was worried when I bought this, but now that I've received it, I know where I'll be ordering from now on.

All the best in one beverage!
Recently I decided to diversify my drinking habits a little for a variety of reasons. I am very concerned about my health, and although I enjoy a nice cup of coffee (or two) in the afternoon, I was troubled with the idea that it’s not good for me to drink so much coffee. I am also prone to anxiety and all the caffeine seems to set me off. I did some research online looking for a healthy alternative that would give me the pick me up I need, but not cause the jitters and aggravate my anxiety. I read a lot about the health benefits of green tea which lead to me reading about the added benefits of matcha. Matcha is the whole green tea leaf ground up into a powder (rather than water brewed with the leaves to make a weaker tea) so it has all the benefits of green tea only much, much more so. I was completely unfamiliar with it before but the benefits sounded amazing so I had to give it a try. Since then I’ve tried a couple of different kinds of matcha. This is Chinese Matcha which is slightly different than the Japanese variety I tried previously. Reading the positive reviews here prompted me to give this product a try. I like the fact that it is 100% organic matcha. Opening the bag, it smells very fresh. The smell is strong, but the taste is not overpowering at all. The effect is both invigorating and calming. The green tea has properties that calm you and balance out the caffeine. It's an overall much more soothing effect than coffee. It’s really easy to make this into a delightful afternoon tea. The powder is finely milled so it’s easier to mix into a beverage. There is no need to sift the powder ahead of time. Just add ½ teaspoon to a mug and add hot water, whisk (I use the frother in place of a manual whisk) and voila! Lattes are almost as simple especially if you have the frother. Add warm milk instead of water and froth! Both ways make a delightful afternoon drink that is both good and good for you.

First try and it met my expectations.
I gave 4 stars because it’s my first time using this brand. Despite having mixed reviews, I decided to give it a try. I recently read about the benefits of matcha and had planned to try it and decrease my daily coffee intake. Coincidentally it was available at a resort coffee shop I recently stayed while on vacation. After the first drink , I returned daily for my morning iced matcha. I went on Amazon did some research and decided on this one. There are so many more expensive and also cheaper brands. I decided on this one even with some negative reviews that focused on the color not being deep dark green. I received my delivery the day after I returned from my trip. I tried it and loved it. The tasted was same as the one served in the resort. Taste is mild, no bitter , easy to blend and not gritty. I had no issues with the powder being messy if you open resealable bag gently . I first added 1 scoop in a little bit of warm almond milk and stirred with a whisk or my cheap liquid frother. I then add rest of cold almond milk( 7 ounces) , add my stevia, stir and add ice. Although I have nothing to compare this brand to since I am not an experienced matcha drinker, I can say that if you’re like me and want to try matcha, it’s a good place to start. Granted this is my first order, I can say that unless the quality changes in the future, I may be a returning customer. I am curious to see what these other high end matcha brands taste like. But for now now this will do. If I should receive a bad batch in the future , I will return and update the review. See pics below .
