Q: Does it have drainage holes so it doesn't fill with water?

There are no drainage holes but we have never had a problem with water retention. That being said, we are in California and don't get alot of rain, so it is never really saturated for long periods of time. The birdhouse is very well made, easy to fill and very cute!

Q: Can you sit on the ground? I want to put on my balcony but have no way to hang it.

You can sit it on the ground, but I’m not sure the birds will go to it. If you’re thinking of putting it on the railing of a balcony, just make sure it’s secure. Some big birds can be aggressive. We have definitely enjoyed watching the birds feed at this feeder.

Q: can you put black oil sunflower seeds in all compartments?

Yes. I mix the seed I put into the house. It has three separate compartments and will allow different seeds to be accessed by birds.

Q: how do you get the roof off?????

You have to take pull the hanger off. The hanger hooks into the "house" part of the birdhouse. Then, you lift off the roof.
