the "calculator" phone. it's what my sister called it
Been using it for a few months now. The reason I bought this phone is due to it having mobile hotspot while still being a dumb phone. I've been using my old smart phone at work so I can still listen to music and stuff and use the hotspot for that. So, when I go home, I leave my old phone there and just use this phone for everything else. A little bit of a complicated ordeal, but I've been loving it. The phone itself is a weel made product, and the call quality has voLTE so you can hear perfectly fine. the biggest drawl backs for me are the signal. If you are out in a mild bfn you probably have very little signal if any at all, but if you are near somewhere its perfectly fine. And my biggest miss is being able to take and send pictures, which is obviously a design of the phone in which it doesn't have a camera. You can receive pictures however the quality isn't the greatest, so unless it's an easy to see picture you're going to have a hard time making it out. other that those two issues I have been enjoying it, and another fact is it is the phone is a lot smaller than you think.

Design over Function
The design of this is great but ultimately this phone fails at its intended goal. The Punkt does basically two things: Phone calls, and text messages. The phone call quality is fantastic. The calls are very clear and loud. The speaker also works great. As for text messages, this phone is a big loser. The T9 typing works just fine, but the lack of MMS makes this almost unusable. If you are in a text group, you will not receive most messages and the ones you do will be hard to sort out. I just stopped responding to any group messages. That and the inability to see pictures or GIFS sent is a bummer (although this does work on the signal app, pidgeon. As for the signal app, it's terrible. It's so bad, it's not worth using at all. It's separate from the text app and only works with other people who also have signal which I think is about 10 people worldwide. Also, when you install this app, it will break any other instance you have of signal, so no more signal on desktop or a tablet. Your choices will be: highly restricted lousy Signal or no Signal at all. I gave this thing 3 stars because I think the people who buy it know what they are getting into. Altogether though, it's not very good at the limited things it claims to do. If they improved the texting, it would be expensive but acceptable. Without the texting working well, it's basically a very expensive telephone. If you can swallow your pretensions and just buy a cheap feature phone, you will be much better served. Update: 8/2021 I decided to update the firmware on this phone and after the update, the phone was bricked. Black screen and would not turn on. I contacted Punkt support and they told me they would not issue a refund for their phone that bricked itself after 5 months because I bought it from amazon. They offered to send me a new phone sometime around December (4 months from now). Thankfully this isn't my only phone or I would be screwed. Nonetheless, I will have to go get another phone and definitely not a Punkt phone. All in all, this phone is garbage, even for what it claims to be. I don't expect it to be a smartphone but it is one of the worst dumbphones on the market and definitely the worst dumbphone for the price. Support is absolute garbage and is not willing to stand behind their product and fix major issues in a timely fashion. Like I said before, find another feature phone.

An elegant concept but poorly implemented software
Update: decided not to return the phone. The limitations described before are still there, but I have agreed to live with them. Had this phone for about a week and a half now. The punkt MP02 is really unmatched in its style and design. For those of us looking for a truly minimalist phone that in all possible ways discourages endless scrolling/ "app jumping", yet at the same time provides essential functions like high quality voice calling, minimal texting, and wifi tethering when needed, nothing on the market beats punkt's concept. It is an elegant concept with an equally elegant hardware. No news, no social media, no games, no icons - the only reason you will pull this phone out of your pocket is to either call someone, or answer a call. The speaker quality is also excellent. With that said, the phone's software is woefully lacking. Fundamental technologies that are standard to the modern world like MMS/group chat and WiFi calling are not supported. Although the Signal platform implemented via the pigeon app works, it is impossible to link an additional device to the punkt as it lacks a camera to scan the QR code. (I'm okay with no camera, but I wish there was a work-around to link another device). The battery life is very poor - especially for a such a feature-less phone. The battery seems to last about 2 and 1/2 days for me on standby (with me not doing anything at all with the phone). The WiFi tethering eats up the battery at rate of about 40 % in 30 minutes. Even more annoying is the poor reception on T-Mobile's network. One would think such a pricey phone that is marketed as a high quality voice phone "built with the 21st century in mind" would have a powerful antenna and support every single frequency out there, but the phone barely has network signal in a urban-suburban setting. Network is non-existent when indoors. I can't imagine it being hard to implement/ improve these seemingly basic features, but the punkt team really bluffed with the software. I tried so hard to try and justify the price for this phone, but at the end of the day, it doesn't make the cut. When you are unable to make and receive phone calls at most times, that really defeats the purpose of any phone - especially that of the punkts. I considered keeping the phone, and hoped they do a major revamp of the software, but I am wary of that ever happening. This phone has been around in some from since 2015. That is plenty of time during which nothing was improved. I will sadly have to return this device before its return deadline expires. Hopefully, Punkt rethinks their strategy and give this beautiful phone the software it deserves.

Not Ready For Primetime!!
I like the concept. When it worked the call quality was awesome and the speaker phone was fantastic. So far I have tried it with Ting and Mint Mobile (winner!) but there is one major issue. AFTER YOU HAVE INSTALLED A SIM CARD NEVER RESTART THE PHONE! If you do the phone will just randomly cut off, actually not even randomly, more like every time the phone auto locks so basically all of the time! So here you have a phone in your pocket and you think its on and it isn't. Not a very reliable means of communication. I have left two complaints with Punkt and have yet to hear back from them. Also, the phone always switches silent mode on, so if you are listening for notifications forget about it. The company says they are working on it but the product never should have been released in the first place until all these bugs (and there are more) had been worked out. I'll increase my overall score when the bugs have been worked out but for now I cannot recommend this product to anyone. **Edit** After a shaky start and a few OS updates, this is not really a bad phone. The texting brings me back to the 1990's but I wasn't good at it then either. The battery life has substantially improved and I can report that it no longer just randomly shuts down because it feels like it. The tethering for the internet works great and on one occasion when I was on call for work and we were at a winery in the middle of nowhere, this little guy saved my butt. The WiFi at the vineyard was not secure so I could not use it to VPN into my office but the connection went through on the Punkt phone, even though it had a very poor signal. I have an 8GB data plan that I pay $240 a year for so the phone works out to be a bargain.

Best purchase of my life
Is it overpriced? Maybe, but so is an iPhone—come on, don’t act like it’s not. Other reviewers say this phone is all about design and not functionality, as if design were some worthless, frivolous thing. This phone is not meant for your elderly loved one who just needs a dumb phone—you can get one of those for a third of the price of the Punkt. They won’t care about the interface anyway. But for someone who wants to exit the matrix, the slick, minimalistic design is precisely what makes the Punkt usable long-term. It’s not annoying, it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not; it is utterly uninteresting. I don’t care about battery life since I barely touch this phone unless I’m making an actual call. This phone is NOT a substitute for a smartphone. You can’t live in this day and age without a smartphone, but you don’t have to let it take over your life, your sleep, your attention span, your energy. I have peace now. It’s so nice to know I’m not carrying my entire digital footprint in my bag—the personal data, the anxiety, the overkill security measures I'd have to take if I lose the damn thing. It’s also incredibly lightweight. And if my family or friends have an emergency, they can (and will) make a call. I’m really happy with this product overall. It works for me. I don’t care about social media at all. Punkt + laptop + smartphone turned off at home is the way to go. I keep my smartphone for bank apps, WhatsApp, and GPS on the rare occasions I travel, but I don’t carry it with me all the time. Sadly, I don’t think this phone will stay on the market for long because most people won’t make this leap. It’s like living in a different reality. If SMS is your main messaging app (USA, I’m talking to you), this probably won’t work for you. No voice clips, no group chats, no images. I do all of that via WhatsApp linked to my laptop, so I’m golden. I’m lucky I can use this. Even if you don't feel as negatively affected by the constant flow of information and excessive screen usage as I do, this phone is worth a try. You deserve to at least remember what it's like to live without the chokehold "the algorithm" has on you.

Not durable
Purchased in June and broke three to four months later. The buttons stopped working all together. You would think by looking at this thing it would be a brick and last forever. I was wrong. Hard to set up. I had to call my carrier and set up the phone manually with a SIM card which is harder than it sounds. The positive about this phone which gives it two stars is the fact that I really wanted a minimalist and simplistic phone to get away from social media and distractions. This phone did exactly that. I have the Light Phone 3 on pre-order which I believe will be a better phone for four reasons: 1) It is marketed as a durable phone and looks to be made of more sturdy material than this punkt phone, 2) It holds music 3) it holds podcasts and 4) it has maps. All features this phone does not have. Keep looking, you're on the right path but this is not the right phone.

It’s a minimalist phone. Battery not as great as advertised. Great phone.

This phone is a joke and way overpriced
Out of the box the phone does not allow you to make uppercase letters. Think about that before purchasing. I could not activate the phone with my carrier because the APN settings required the input of capital letters. I contacted Punkt customer "service" and the next day received a reply directing me to the FAQ on their website, declining to provide me an answer directly. FAQ #20 has a short video with instructions how to add this extraordinary feature of making capital letters on a phone, who would have thought? Understand that this was not a problem with my phone, this is how the Punkt phone is shipped. You have to go into "Notes" to "New Note" and then type in the word "Uppercase". Ridiculous! I wanted a "dumb" or minimalist phone for calls and texts but this is just plain stupid. How could any company release a phone that does not have as its default setting the ability to toggle between lowercase, uppercase and numbers? And impossible to figure out on your own without referring to instructions on website. There is nothing intuitive about this phone's operation. One should not have to go to a website and search through FAQ to figure out how to make capital letters on a phone in the 21st century. People who want dumb phones want it to work right out of the box without having to delve into various settings. On a side note, the calculator was cumbersome to use, having to scroll through each of the basic 4 functions to use them. I use a calculator quite a bit so this was very annoying. The ONLY good thing about this phone is the physical design/size. That's it. $400 dollars for a slick looking compact phone that couldn't make capital letters as a default feature. What other basic function it could not do I'll never know. I returned it.

Pleasantly surprised
I got this little gem to replace an old flip phone that I use as a second device. I just forward my iPhone calls and texts to my dumb phone when I’m out and about this MP two phone is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. It’s small light, fairly basic but yet has tons of features. I’ve had zero problems with it and it works as I would expect it to. It’s well built feels good in the end and actually fits in a coin pocket. Using it as a primary device might be a little tricky in today’s world, but as a second, very portable device , it is invaluable… At least for me. If you’re on the fence, just get it. It may be expensive for some folks, but you get what you pay for I love mine.

For the Digital Minimalist.
I’m genuinely grateful that a product like this exists in today’s world — a simple, elegant phone designed for intentional use. It handles calls, texts, and the occasional hotspot — and that’s all you need. You won’t find yourself doomscrolling for hours, because you simply can’t. Built with durability in mind, it feels like a solid monoblock — compact, reliable, and made to last. It fits comfortably in the centre of your palm, leaving plenty of space to type naturally. The button layout is excellent too: each button is perfectly sized so you can press it cleanly without accidentally hitting others. Functionally, it’s everything you need for a quieter, more focused way of life. Do it for yourself — break free from the algorithms.
