A few days before I got this order I had purchased a similar triple blend (different brand) that only had 5 million reported, that I found at a local Nursery for $25. A significantly higher cost comparatively, but when I checked the nursery bought nematodes, they were not moving around and did not appear to be alive. I'm not 100% sure that they were all dead because they weren't stick straight but they definitely weren't moving. When I called to tell them they were not alive, the people at the nursery said they weren't sure if they were actually supposed to move around or not. After getting this product from Nature's good guys, I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be moving around, because these guys were all over the place as soon as they touched water! I won't buy from a nursery again because there's no guarantee how long it's been sitting on the shelf. At least ordering Direct, I think there's a much higher chance that the nematodes will be alive and kicking. I have no idea if the nematodes will work their magic. I'm hoping it will be able to infect and kill some hibernating roaches, termites, and maybe some grubs and stink bugs. Don't bother if it's above 90° out, I also wouldn't bother if it's dry and hot unless you really want to be out there wetting the ground every hour. However, I haven't seen any progress on it helping to reduce or eliminate anything. Sadly, like most of the complaints against this product (seller) and possibly others - is that the product requires refrigeration. It showed up on my doorstep in a minimally insulted envelop and an ice pack bag that was warmer than the outside temperature. In addition, the delivery person placed the package in direct sunlight. I spread the product the same evening - after sunset - the day of delivery. I'm not expecting anything great from the product or company. **Q: How do I know how many “million” I need for the area I have to cover?** A: They have a recommendation chart on their website **Q: How do i know if it worked? when i received my package the ice was melted and the package was warm. is there a chance the nematodes were destroyed?** A: Nematodes are very durable and the ice pack is used more for moisture than it is for keeping the Nematodes cold during transit. We do not at all expect the ice to still be cold upon receipt. They are reared in rooms up to 105 degrees and are not activated until mixed with water therefore are perfectly fine and ready to use upon receipt. If you are not going to use them immediately they can be stored for up to 4 weeks in your household refrigerator. If they are no longer viable they will smell like rotten meat. **Q: is this product shipped with ice packs to keep product at correct temperature?** A: The product was shipped in a minimally insulted envelop containing one (1) ice pack. Last year was the first time I tried them as part of my organic gardening attempt. I was disappointed in the results because I still had a serious problem with pests eating my plants faster than they could ripen. It seemed like the nematodes did nothing. This year, however, I can see a huge difference. I have almost no bugs at all...including mosquitoes. It's late may and the danger of frost has passed and we can be outside without getting eaten alive. There are few ants and all of my plants are doing much better. There are still critters running around like bunnies, snakes, mice, squirrels, toads...etc; so no harm there. I couldn't be happier. That said, I will address some of my initial concerns. When my package arrived this year and last year, the included ice packs were completely melted. This did not affect the product performance. I stored them in my fridge for 2 weeks this year and there was no bad smell (the company assured me that they were still living as long as they didn't smell dead). There was no smell last year either. I measured the water temp before activating the nematodes both years. Last year I did not water them in after applying with my sprayer. I noticed lots of grass blades with little eaten trails in them lol. I thought that might be why "they didn't work". (I was obviously mistaken). Also...no fleas yet this year either. My animals have no flea meds or collars on them and they are flea free so far. It will be a real test to see if the fleas come back later this summer.(I will update) All of the plants in my yard are doing much better and we aren't inundated in bugs like we should be. I'll keep applying them every year for now on I think. (Update Aug 2021) No fleas at all yet. We couldn't be happier. The mosquitoes have returned but mosquito bits and the dunks help with that. There have been a few pests on trees and bushes, but nothing significantly damaging.
