I wanted to see if there was a significant quality difference between the two that warranted the steeper price of the Smittybilt shackles ($18 for two TGL shackles versus $26 for two Smittybilt shackles in Mar 2016).Pros:- In size and shape, right down to the hole size and shape of the pin head--the TGL brand appears to be a copy of the Smittybilt shackle. The Smittybilt shackle has the word "Smittybilt" in raised letters, but that's about it. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they're both manufactured by the same company.- Pin threads are clean and easy to screw in.- Load limit is indicated in raised letters/numbers.- Thread pitch and pin size are the same so parts are interchangeable between the two brands.Cons:- The black paint is a little thinner on the TGL brand. I originally thought paint thickness was a purchasing factor, which is why I started by purchasing the Smittybilt shackles (which have thicker paint). However, after normal handling of both shackles, the paint doesn't hold up worth a darn. A little bit knocking or scratching against hard surfaces (concrete, metal, etc.) easily scrapes away the paint. You can see some of it in the included pictures, and that's just from knocking shackles together, attaching to a receiver, etc.Both brands are made in China.Going forward, I'll purchase these rather than the Smittybilt brand. (Note: In the attached pictures, the TGL shackle is on the left.) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Solid Rigging D-Rings *by R***0 on Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2017* These are awesome. I didn't buy them for a jeep, but for rigging. I was surprised with how hard it is to find rigging supplies, even at the farm supply stores. I always used the stuff my father had accumulated over the years, so I took it for granted. Now that I've finally got my own shop I'm piecing all of that stuff together for myself. I'm glad for the off-road community because these were exactly what I was looking for to accompany my tractor loader and the gantry crane I just built. These will withstand several times the weight I'll be able to throw on them, which is a nice cheap insurance policy, and they've worked great so far. They're nicely made and the threads are clean so the pin goes in and out easily by hand. Pretty simple so not much else to say. Oh yeah, paint is surprisingly durable too. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The shackle fits nicely into a receiver arm with out a ball *by J***D on Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2015* Solid and have no doubt they'll do the job. Got them along with a recovery strap for my truck. Haven't needed to use either so far.
