Poppy Red
The color is absolutely beautiful, I can't deny that. I'm happy with how this product looks. However, I can't personally excuse how much this product bleeds color. It stains everything, my stainless steel sink was red after rinsing it out. My shower is stained from it. Every time I shower (even using cool water to preserve the color and lessen bleeding) it looks like I've committed a serious crime. Even when dry this dye rubs on my skin and I can run a baby wipe over it and it's just covered with dye. My pillow case is stained from sleeping with DRY hair. I'm no stranger to direct dyes. I've used multiple brands. I've never had one that bleeds this badly, even with me using color sealer after coloring, using cool water, avoiding sulfates, and every other trick there is to preserve direct dye. The color, wonderful. Absolutely it is so pretty. Unfortunately I don't feel it's worth how much the color bleeds and rubs off. UPDATED REVIEW - the color rubbing off is annoying and even with a color sealer this dye will stain your tub. BUT the color lasts so long. The poppy red lasted over 6 months for me and no other direct dye does that. I've since used Flamingo Pink (picture with the mask, put over an faded orange base) and it's 3 months in and going strong. If you don't mind ruining a few pillow cases (and possibly your tub) I changed my mind and would recommend this dye. Update 2: This hair dye is my go to now. It's lasts for months and months every time I use it and it fades prettily too. Last two photos are from fresh to faded MONTHS later. Serious lasting power.

Add h2O for perfect pink!
Not the best label instructions; I feel it works best with a few drops of water per swatch! Makes it actually smooth against the hair as due should be instead of globs of goo by itself. When diluting it with water, it creates a nice rich magenta hue dye. Add more water to make a nice pastel pink hue. It mixes well with other dyes, but still overpowers the color blending. Perfect mixture for pink-heads out there! It also keeps the hair safer, my hair’s been silky smooth and doesn’t need as frequent of washes. It’s REALLY pigmented, so be extra careful handling if any drips on counters, floors. And careful with washing as it stains the bathtub temporarily for a week. Has lasted me more than 6 months! I had to reapply a few times the first couple months after washes to get a consistent tone, but again, a little goes a long way with added water!

Great color but so much transfer
It’s a great color but be prepared to dye everything you wear for the first week. I have dyed my pillow, my sheets, my neck, my face, and my clothes with this product. There is a lot of transfer in the first week until the dye begins to fade out. It’s quite annoying to wake up every morning with a red neck (lol) so be prepared to wash every day! Also if you are planning to swim out go into the steam room/sauna…. Just don’t!!

Formula has changed. So disappointing. Don’t waste your money.
Okay, listen. I have used punky color Poppy Red for the past 8 freaking years. It was always reliable and such a good product. Super pigmented and super conditioning. Well…the last 2 batches have been TERRIBLE. So weak. Didn’t even last for a week before massively fading. And was never the right color. Left my hair feeling dry and gross. Not at all pigmented. Not at all conditioning. Barely even stuck to my hair. I know in the recent years, they made some drastic changes to the formula and the colors used to stay in compliance with some California law… But it never had impacted the formula until now. So disappointing. I ordered the first from IHerb…thought maybe it was a fluke. The batch from Amazon came—and it’s just the same. I’m switching to Arctic fox wrath. So sad. I was a punky color devotee. Now I’m totally turned off.

OK red dye
This dye is not really better than others but it does the job. I typically go with Special Effects when I want very red result, but I picked this one up at the store to give it a try. It delivered decent results but did not stay as long as SFX or Manic Panic. This color is also a more orangy red than I like (I like a pinker rather than orangy red) but it does deposit a decent amount of red into my hair. The results are very vibrant but this product does stain surfaces and fabrics a little more than most. After seeing the results the first time, I decided to just use it in conjunction with a color depositing or regular conditioner. I mix it with whatever conditioner I decide to use and leave it in for about an hour or two and it conditions my hair while adding more pigment to fadded-out red. This is especially useful because red hair has a tendency to fade very quickly, but when this product is used regularly with my conditioner of choice, I can add more red without the effort of dying my entire head.

forget manic panic please!
this color is AMAZING! and yes all caps is required. When you first open your tub of Jerome Russell the first thing you will always notice is the smell. it smells better than any hair product i have ever used, not just color, anything! rich and very fruity. it is just the pick me up you need before the daunting task of coloring your hair. next you'll notice the color is very full and thick. it is easy to thin out a bit by mixing with your favorite white conditioner ( this technique can also be used on a larger scale to tweak the color its self to which ever shade you desire) but i love the thickness because it doesn't tend to drip all over my floor. the results are really what matter though and that is where this color just takes the cake. Always get the richest colors from any of the Jerome Russell colors i have used over the years and i am very quick to correct the old manic panic myth. This is the only semi permanent color i will ever use again, and i suggest to any one i can to do the same.

Put some color back into your life!
Wow! How amazing is this poppy red temp hair dye! I've been looking to put some color back into my balayage without the hefty price of going to my hair stylist and all the other hair dyes I've been looking at were too bright of a shade of red...Until I found this! First of all make sure you have enough! I ordered 2 just in case and it was the perfect amount for the length of my hair (mid back). Second, this stuff smells AMAZING. I was so surprised when I opened it and it smelled like grape! Like all hair dyes, it does stain your hands (if you don't use gloves) and your hair line and ears (take the right precautions and use petroleum jelly) but it goes away after a while. I can't say much about how temporary this hair dye is yet since I just dyed it a couple of days ago but I just was so absolutely in love with the color it made my hair I had to write a review.

I’m saying goodbye to my security deposit- it stains everything it touches
There’s pros and cons- Pro: very pretty color for the first day. Pro: stupid easy to use. Con: it stains every thing it comes in contact with!! I am saying goodbye to my security deposit for sure lol my tub is stained like no other from ONE use! I’ve scrubbed it 3x today and my hair has only been dyed for 6 hours. Con: it takes forever to rinse out. It stains your skin/scalp, hands, ears etc. Con: it took the entire bottle plus some of another shade of red to cover my thick hair that’s not even shoulder length. Butttt over all the color is pretty. I honestly thought I was buying a color depositing conditioner which this NOT at all!!!!!!!! Lol

Expect 1–2 weeks of true intensity
On Natural Light Brown Hair: Almost invisible. You’ll see a subtle warm sheen in direct sunlight, but indoors looks like regular hair. Not worth it unless you’re okay with a whisper of red. On the pre-lightened hair, vibrancy dropped ~30% after the first wash (even with cold water + sulfate-free shampoo). By wash #3, it was a soft rose-gold — still pretty, but not the bold wine I expected. Expect 1–2 weeks of true intensity.

Smells good and works
It was just ok. I usually use the ion brand in Red Hot but thought I’d shake things up a little since I didn’t feel like going to Sally’s. It’s nice and if I hadn’t known about ION I probably would have gave it more stars. It does what it says it does and smells very nice.
