Technivorm Moccamaster Moccamaster 53947 KBGV 10-Cup Coffee Maker Orange, 40 Ounce, 1.25l

I've never spent this much on a coffee maker in my life and never thought I would. But I'm glad I did. I have had Cuisinart coffee makers for years and I am so tired of having to buy a new Cuisinart after a couple of years of use when it begins to malfunction. I have had to return brand new Cuisinart coffee makers as they didn't work right and then wait for the replacement. Don't know why I was so loyal to the brand. Maybe because they used to be much better and lasted longer. This Moccamaster has a five year warranty - that tells you something right there (don't forget to register yours if you purchase one - they have an online form). It's made in the Netherlands with meticulous crafting and testing. It's nice looking. It's easy to clean. It's fast. It makes hot coffee. It's smaller so it fits on my countertop nicely without taking up a lot of room. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like the Rose Gold even though it is pretty, but I've come to like it and it's a change from the stainless steel I've had for years. And, the Rose Gold was $60 less, so there's that! Keep in mind that though this carafe holds ten cups, this is ten 4 ounce cups, not 6-8 ounce mugs. Fine by me as I drink a few mugs in the morning and then I'm done, and I'm the only one drinking coffee. These take paper filters - I've used a gold filter for many years because I don't like tossing things in the landfill. However, two things: my gold filter does fit in there should I want to use it; and you can rinse the paper filters and reuse them a few times. Between those two things, less in the landfill. There is research to indicate that using paper filters doesn't affect your cholesterol levels like the gold permanent filters. So something to think about. However using the paper filters does affect taste to some degree - I have to get used to the more 'smoother' taste of the coffee without the oils. But on the good side, there's not the sludgy stuff at the bottom of my cup, and no coffee grounds escaping into my cup. Though it indicates to use fresh ground beans, I use both fresh ground and already ground. The fresh ground can taste better, but sometimes the already ground is convenient and easy and right there, and on sale. This is so easy to use right out of the box, once you put the parts in place. This is a no frills type coffee maker - there isn't a timer but I never used the timer on my Cuisinart, not once, so I don't miss that feature at all. There's no clock but why do I need a clock? I don't even have clocks in my house other than what is on my stove and cable box. There's two buttons: one to select half pot or full pot, and the on/off button. The plug is weird. You have to kind of turn it partially sideways. It was annoying at first but now I just do it and don't think about it. Cord is short, which I like. Hate snaking cords - I like the cord hidden behind the coffee maker and this one stays behind just great. What I also like is there isn't those two deep dark areas that are difficult to get to and clean like in the Cuisinart and many other coffee machines. No matter how much I cleaned the machine, I always wondered how clean it really was down in there where you pour the water and where the brewing happens I guess. Here you can see where the water is, and it only goes through the stainless steel 'arm' and then down the little funnel and into the grounds. Cleaning is simple. There is no coffee going inside the machine anywhere. They suggest descaling it about every 3 months using a descaler and not vinegar. I never liked to use vinegar anyway. Out of the box I 'brewed' water only 3 times (they suggest 2) to be sure any factory dust or whatever was gone. It's quiet. No loud beeping when it's done. No loud gargling gurgles. Though you can hear it gently brewing. And you can see the bubbles coming up in the water - it happens fast! Mine has a warming plate. I don't know if all of the models have it. The KBGV Select has a full pot or half pot selection. I used the half pot selection this morning when I brewed about a half pot and my coffee tasted better than when I used the full pot selection on half a pot - so it does something. I'm happy with mine and glad I finally purchased it after doing so much reading and research on coffee machines - for months! -- the Moccamaster kept coming up over and over in the Best Coffee Makers lists - and often number 1. If you are on the fence, hop on over, if you don't mind the price and don't mind it's a no-frills machine. The best part of it is the quality - I shouldn't have to buy another coffee machine for many many years!

I was reluctant to pull the trigger on this coffee maker. It looks cool, but is expensive. After reading the reviews, I went ahead and bought it, and am so glad I did. This is without a doubt the best cup of coffee I've ever had. It's smooth, the perfect temperature, and tastes amazing. I'm using Black Rifle coffee and the combination of this machine and their stellar beans is just out of this world. I literally pour myself a cup in the morning, take a sip, and smile. It's that good. I used the exact same coffee in an inferior machine and it was okay, but nothing to write home about. This machine makes all the difference.

I love this coffee maker because it feels like the rare appliance that is both beautiful and genuinely functional. The off-white color looks clean and classic on the counter, and the whole design feels intentional without being complicated. What I appreciate most is how simple it is to use. It brews a full 40 oz pot in about 4–6 minutes, and the selector lets you choose between a half or full carafe, which is perfect for different kinds of mornings. The coffee tastes smooth and consistent, and I like that it does not require a lot of buttons, settings, or mental energy before the day has even started. It is definitely an investment, but for me, it feels like one of those products that earns its place in the home because I use it constantly and it makes a daily routine feel better. I also appreciate the quality feel, automatic drip-stop basket, and the auto shutoff, which adds peace of mind. The only caveat is that this is not a programmable coffee maker with lots of digital features. But honestly, that is part of what I like about it. It is straightforward, reliable, and makes great coffee without turning coffee into a project.

I’d been limping along with a generic $9 drip coffee maker for years, always putting off the research to find a good one. This year, I’d had enough of that cheap maker. I dove deep into researching SCA-approved brewers, binged YouTube videos, and read tons of reviews. After all that, I settled on the Technivorm Moccamaster, mainly because it’s not made in China, has a solid warranty, and offers parts and service through a U.S. location. At first, I was leaning toward the thermal carafe model. Coffee nerds kept saying glass carafes give coffee a burnt taste if it sits too long. I know that taste from a lifetime of glass carafe makers, but I rarely let coffee sit that long. If I do, I just brew a fresh pot. Plus, glass carafes are way cheaper to replace and easier to clean than those glass-lined thermal ones, which are also breakable but cost a lot more. The color choice was tough. I was leaning toward a safe, neutral one, but then I read a review (can’t find it now) that basically said: if you’re torn between a boring color and a bold one, go bold—you won’t regret it. That pushed me to pick the turquoise, and I’m obsessed with it. No regrets! I’m not a clean freak and never bothered to thoroughly clean my old coffee makers after every use. But this Moccamaster? It feels like it deserves the extra few seconds to stay spotless. It’s built to last years, and I want to keep it looking nice. Since I couldn’t see one in person before buying, I was a bit nervous about the plastic quality some folks complained about. Honestly, I don’t get the fuss—the plastic feels solid enough, not cheap or flimsy, and every part is replaceable through Amazon or Technivorm. The glass carafe does seem a tad thin, so I’m sure I’ll break it eventually. The carafe lid pops on and off super easily for cleaning. The water reservoir lid feels a little loose, but it’s not a big deal to me—what am I locking up in there? Heads-up: Moccamasters need coarsely ground coffee. If you’re using pre-ground grocery store stuff, you might want to pick a different SCA-approved brewer. I used to be a pre-ground coffee person too, but I switched to hand-grinding specialty beans right before getting this. I’ve accidentally ground too fine a couple of times, and it almost overflowed the filter basket—way too close for comfort. Some coffee gurus say to stir the grounds while brewing for the best extraction. I wasn’t planning to bother, but I’m usually nearby (I leave the filter lid off during brewing). When it’s down to about a cup left, I’ll give it a quick stir if I notice dry grounds near the filter basket handle. A few times, I forgot to stir until it was done, but when I checked, all the grounds were wet anyway. The coffee tasted just as good to me—I couldn’t tell the difference. Is this the ultimate coffee maker? I don’t know. But it feels well-made, I love how it looks, and the coffee it brews is fantastic. I think it’ll last for years. Would I pay full price? Probably not. Did I wait for a sale? Nope. I got an Amazon store card with a $100 instant gift card, which made it feel like a solid deal for a coffee maker I’m thrilled with.

I purchased a KBGV Select in "polished silver" because it was on sale (less than $200 for Prime day). What a steal, right? Ha. No, these guys are trying to dump inventory because they know how poorly they were built. I was very hesitant to buy one of these, even with the deep sale price, because there are sooooooo many reviews calling out chipped hot plates, switches just "dropping out" of their slots and dangling inside the chassis, and even used/dirty/broken parts on arrival. I got mine today and I made sure to video record the unboxing in case the Amazon customer service bots try to give me a hard time about returning it - which I am doing (my wife just finished completing the request for a UPS drop-off). Anyway, I opened it up and did NOT see any chips on the hot plate. "Jackpot!" I thought to myself. I sat the unit on the counter and admired how nice it looks. It does look nice, in my opinion, as a big paper weight. But I digress... I went to test the switches. Power switch is nice and snappy, and clearly turns "on" and "off." I also can hear the clicking sound people mentioned in reviews, which can help get your attention when the heating element turns off (or so people say). All good there. Then I went to check the brew selector switch - the one that lets you choose between "half pot" and "full pot" (yes I know that's not exactly how the function works but I'm not sure how else to describe it). When I press it to the "half pot" side, it kind of clicks a little and stays in place, but it's "squishy" feeling. As in, the switch isn't firmly secured in the slot. I made sure not to push too hard because I didn't want to dislodge it. When I press the "full pot" side of the switch, it's very "muddy" feeling and doesn't click or "engage." If I push it a little harder it does stay on "full pot," but otherwise it pulls back over to the "half pot" side. I just don't trust it. It doesn't look like an assembly issue. It seems more like they use switches that tend to be defective, or they aren't using compatible parts. The switches look to be pretty similar, but they're installed at a 180 degree orientation relative to each other. I don't know if maybe one of them is installed upside down? I'm not going to take anything apart to find out because I don't want to screw up the return process or make things difficult. But maybe that's the case. After all I've read about Technivorm Moccamaster products, I thought this was going to be my "forever coffee machine" (sorry I've watched too much HGTV). But it's junk. Like actual junk. I was going to buy one of the new hi-tech machines with a bloom function and temp control, but I thought to myself "Nah, I'll get the moccamaster because they sound like the Miele vacuum cleaners of the coffee world." Forget it. Now I know how Alaska airlines felt when that 737 door plug blew out. Maybe former Boeing employees work at Technivorm.

This Technivorm model has been a great addition to our kitchen and brews a no-frills pot of coffee well. If you are looking for something that offers specialty features than this is most definitely not for you. The immediate pros are the aesthetics. It has a classic appearance with many color options. Also, it's fairly simple to operate and is basically "dummy" proof. The most important part is that it dispenses hot water from the arm at around 200 degrees which I confirmed and is said to be the ideal temperature it should be functioning at. The cons are the gap from the basket arm to the pot. There is very little room, so I often find myself scraping the lid or bottom of the pot. This isn't as bad as it sounds but it's fairly odd and could use another quarter of an inch gap spacing. I'd also like the coffee pot spout to be a bit more pronounced and the water reservoir to be a bit larger as well. Overall, I'm nitpicking and I'm very happy. I've owned OXO and a few Ninjas over the last 5+ years and they all leaked so badly that I ended up tossing them. Constantly cleaning up water on the device or counters is a dealbreaker. Finding a drip coffee maker that doesn't leak is far and away more difficult than I would have thought. This does not (so far) but I will add that the regular price seems a bit steep. This should be in the $250-$275 range which is what I purchased it for on BF. Unfortunately, there's a lot of plastic and it seems flimsy out of the box. I just don't see the price point being reasonable but maybe it is if all $200+ coffee makers I've tried have had issues. If this makes it beyond 5 years than I'll be very happy. There is a long history of satisfied customers, so I expect nothing less.

I have owned my Moccamaster for 9 months now and I could not be more pleased with this purchase. Using the Moccamaster is incredibly easy, and I have had zero technical issues with it. This machine by far makes some of the best tasting coffee I have ever had, and it is incredibly consistent, as well as being pretty easy to clean. If you are at all on the fence about this, just go for it, I am so glad that I did and I am sure you will not regret it either.

This is the finest coffee maker I have owned. The coffee consistently emerges at an optimal temperature, and the flavor quality is distinctly superior when compared to other devices I have used. The coffee is prepared within minutes. The machine is drip-proof, and the high quality is immediately apparent. While it is on the costly side, it is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment for those who value exceptional-tasting coffee.

Our grind and brew machine died on us and so we started using a French press and/or Areo press. Both options worked fine, but I like to make a pot in the morning so my wife can have a cup, and I can take the rest to work in a thermos. I started watching reviews on drip coffee makers and came across this unit. Everything about it was appealing. -THE LOOK- Aesthetically, it's stunning. Timeless, classic look. It's very clean, the textured finish looks very durable, doesn't finger print, and the color choices are excellent. (I wanted the pistachio color but once I pulled the trigger couldn't wait for it to be shipped so opted for my second choice). While brewing it looks neat as the water bubbles up the center column and into the outlet. -THE BREWING OPTIONS- Very basic controls, but the half pot select allows you to not only brew a half pot, but modifies blooming duration. From there the sky is the limit with grind options and strength without all the buttons and programming. It's also pretty fast- full pot in 6 minutes. -THE TASTE- I've had it 5 days and have made 7-8 pots... It's the best tasting coffee (obviously the beans, grind and everything can make the difference... but when I have a Tim Hortons or Starbucks it's just not the same) and I drink black coffee. -THE DESIGN- If it ain't broke... this design has been around for 50 years and is hand made in the Netherlands and comes with a 5 year warranty. It's not ground breaking but that's the point. Keep it simple. Quality parts, copper heating element, and separate elements for water heating and the carafe. The removable water outlet arm is a nice touch if it gets a fingerprint on it or if your need to clean- simply pop off. -THE PRICE- Ok, so this is super expensive for "just a coffee brewer" but personally I'd rather spend big money on a quality piece that has service able parts, rather than a machine 1/3 the price that may only last 2-4 years. This is a lifetime machine if cared for. Personally I drink at least 3 large black coffees/ day. Starbucks dark roast black is $4.00 CAD. It'll pay for itself in no time. -THE ONLY NEGATIVE- The glass carafe seems really fragile and thin. I'm paranoid it will break. I do not allow anyone to operate my machine as I'm scared they wouldn't be as careful as I when I rinse it. So if you buy pre ground coffee and want an easy pot of coffee, or like to grind fresh and experiment in grams per liter, ground size etc... but must have the best- buy this.

Makes delicious coffee and looks very sleek in my kitchen. Happy with this purchase and would recommend it.

Me parece un poco cara. Está fabricada principalmente de piezas plásticas. La jarra receptora es de un cristal muy delgado y se siente frágil. Las primeras 2 o 3 veces que la usé me decepcionó por la escasa extraccion que producía un café insípido, pero empecé a jugar con el tamaño de la molienda y cantidades de manera diferente a la que usaba en otras cafeteras de goteo y entonces sucedió la magia, el café resultante es realmente delicioso. Yo uso el sistema de media jarra y esta se filtra en menos de 4 minutos. También me di cuenta que seguramente el secreto está en que la cafetera logra calentar el agua a una temperatura más adecuada a diferencia de otras cafeteras más baratas. Sin embargo también observo que el contacto del agua caliente con el café molido no es parejo, ya que el café que queda más alejada del chorro caliente no es tocada por el agua, de tal manera que siempre al inicio de la filtración muevo el café con una cuchara. Mi unica duda es, al ser tan rápida la filtración, no se estará desperdiciando una gran cantidad de café? Y una más, la caja dice Made in China y eso me preocupó, pero en la base de la máquina se confirma que es europea.

El producto venía dañado! es una pena que después de ver tantas opiniones de este excelente producto venga de esta manera. me dí la oportunidad de hacer un gasto tan grande y me llevo una gran desepcion. A veces lo caro sale muy malo ni hablar como decimos en México... va pa atrás! The product came damaged! It's a shame that after seeing so many reviews of this excellent product it comes this way. I gave myself the opportunity to make such a big expense and I am very disappointed.
