Works great!
This dethatcher worked out really good for me. It came a day early, which was a nice surprise. However, it was not easy to put together. I would have sent it back if my son hadn't helped me. The location of the screws, washers and nuts were difficult to get to with the ratchet and wrench, and the nuts didn't seem to be threaded properly or something. Kinda weird.Once it was put together, it worked great. This has 3 settings for the tines. One is in the up position for traveling along with it not actually engaging with ground, 2 brings up grass and thatch, 3 brings up grass and thatch and also rakes into the dirt if you add weight to the top. It didn't go as deep as a verticutter, but it was a lot easier to pull it behind the mower than wrestling with a verticutter. To use this, I waited till the day after it rained so the ground would be soft. I mowed my grass pretty low using the catcher...about 2 inches. I hooked up the dethatcher to my riding mower and drove slowly. I started out with it in the 2 position. It raked up thatch, but I soon switched to the 3 position after adding a row of bricks bungeed to the top. It brought up a bunch of thatch and raked the ground, which is what I was after. I did have to stop and unclog the tines a few times...sticks and leaves were getting caught. I then mowed again with the catcher to pick up all of the thatch. It was a big job, but I fertilized after the dethatching process and two weeks later my grass looked awesome. I plan to run it over my back yard again and put down another round of winterizer. Not sure if it matters, but I have fescue being taken over by zoysia grass in my front yard. My back yard is a mess of fescue, wild violets and wild euonymus looking vines. The dethatcher raked through the zoysia grass and fescue perfectly, but it didn't do much to the violets or the ivy.All in all, using this is much more convenient than renting a verticutter and about the price of a one-day rental. I look forward to using it in the spring and the fall for years to come.

Wondeful purchase and it works as advertised!!!!!
My package arrived quickly and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Everything was intact and neatly packaged inside of the box. Inside of the box you will find the installation manual, the unit itself (tines already attached) and the loose parts in the bottom will be the handle and tow arms. The instruction manual includes written and picture diagrams to help you and it was pretty straightforward and took me approximately an hour to fully attach, adjust and tighten everything. The nuts, bolts and other parts are neatly organized on a cardboard sheet with plastic covering that's easily accessed at the time you need each part. They're organized on the cardboard broken down by sections and the instruction manual will tell you which parts are needed from each section as you move along.I quickly attached it to my zero turn mower and placed two cinderblocks on top for extra weight and away I went. It pulled up a lot of dead grass, weeds and other debris hidden under my lawn. Our lawn has never been dethatched so after dethatching I used my push mower that has a bagger on it and I removed all thatch from my lawn. This evening I'm going to go back over it again to make sure I've removed all possible thatch before reseeding my lawn this weekend. The unit itself is well built and feels solid and durable. I would recommend keeping it stored inside of a shed or some type of shelter because of course if it does rust it will only weaken it's strength. I feel confident that I will be using this for years to come because firstly it did a nice job and secondly because I try my best to take care of my lawn equipment and if I take the same care with this, it should last me for years.I'm very please with my purchase and never believed it would pull up as much thatch as it did, very surprised! Fast and dependable service from Amazon as always!

Works great. Bring beer for assembly
Once assembled this this is awesome. You throw a couple cinder blocks on the back with a bungie (not provided) and off you go. I did use it without the cinder blocks and it worked fine but im basically renovating my lawn so I used the bricks for extra weight.Assembly:My (and it appears many others) biggest gripe. The platform is a stamped part. That's fine. What's not fine is they decided to punch both flanges for the arms in one direction, and hope you catch the fact that one arm goes on the inside of one of the flanges and the other arm goes on the outside. STUDY THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. I assumed it would be symmetrical and ended up taking the thing apart to do it correctly. Why they couldn't just have the other flange punched the opposite direction I have no idea. Anyways the arms are the biggest pain. If you've got hands (not big hands, just hands) getting the arm bolts and nuts to line up without dropping the nut 100 times and throwing the whole thing through a window is just about impossible. I suggest having a beer while assembling. Once you get past the arms it's not bad.Using the thing redeems the assembly process. The height adjustment:Transport-all the way up.Dethatch- dethatches moderate lawns.Scarify-basically drops the tines even deeper to really pull up alot of thatch, or in my case moss, or roughen up the dirt for overseeding. You can easily adjust the height from your mower without getting off which is a big plus. Pulled up all my thatch no problem and removed a ton of the moss that my yard is full of.Pro tip: if you have a lawn sweeper use that after you pull up the thatch. I originally raked it into piles for part of the yard, the other part I used the sweeper and I bet it saved 2 hours of work on my .75 acre lawn.Overall it's a joy to use and it's pretty light and easy to hang on a wall for storage with the bricks off of it. 5 stars if the assembly wasn't a process that should be banned by the geneva convention.TL;DR- Great to use, assembly sucks

Does a good job where there's no St. Augustine grass.
Ideal for raking up a seed bed or just clearing out old thatch but can't be used where there's St. Augustine or any long runners.

Works great
I was pleasantly surprised how good a job this purchase did when recently used for the first time. Lawn does need to be fairly flat for it to work most effectively and somewhat dry lawn conditions. Overall, very happy with the purchase of the Brinly dethatcher.

Works wonderful and easy to adjust height from your seat
Takes about 1 hour to assemble. Instructions are Ok. This product works extremely well and gets the job done fast. I really like the fact that you can raise/lower the tines from the seat of the tractor. The adjustments to the deck also makes it possible to adjust the back and front tines so that they are evenly spaced to the ground and they both dig evenly into the lawn/soil.
