I ordered the June Gold 0.9mm 4B lead refills to pair with my Pentel GraphGear 1000 mechanical pencil, to use for the illustration class I’m taking. I have no complaints so far. The lead is durable, it has a nice, creamy-smooth lay down of pigment and it works perfectly for shading. You don’t have to apply much pressure to get a nice, rich, dark lay-down. You can achieve a wide variety of shades by varying application pressure. Definitely capable of laying down some dark, crisp lines as well, even in the large 0.9mm diameter. It smudges fairly easily, but that is to be expected with any soft graphite. It’s also very easy to remove pieces of lead from the container, contrary to what some reviews here say.
