For me the big debate is over, I finally know what Webcam to buy & recommend. This is THE webcam to get. I spent months browsing reviews, articles & opinions wondering which Webcam to get, all products, including this one, seem to get mixed reviews. I was still uncertain but needed to buy and went for the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. The comments about image quality from the Carl Zeiss Lens swayed it for me. I don't regret it at all. I did initially have a minor Vista64 Install issue where after installing the included software I could no longer see my networked PCs in windows explorer. I could still access them but not see them. One day, after a normal scheduled Microsoft Windows update, the problem just went away and I've been fine ever since. I love the quality of this camera, both in terms of designs/build and particularly the fabulous picture and sound. In Skype it's performance capabilities are automatically recognised and Higher definition video is used by default. This benefits the person watching your video of course, you would need them to have one for you to benefit. The audio is also excellent and doesn't appear to suffer from the loopthrough or feedback issues I've read about on some Webcams with internal Mics. The included software is a little gimmicky, but worthwhile. It's quite fun for the kids to mysteriously make clothes and accessories appear on them real time during chats. The Face recognition driven auto-panning feature that the software allows works very nicely. I'm getting a Mac with a built in Webcam, but I understand that there are OSX drivers for this camera so I intend to keep using the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. I will also be buying some more for my family so I can benefit from their improved picture quality. One last thing I'll mention is that it is also very practical, it sits equally well on top of my 22" TFT as it does on a 17" CRT, or on the Desk. I also like the fact that you get a red glowing ring around the Logitech logo to inform you that the webcam is active. I love this camera! Top Marks Logitech.

I find reviews really useful in choosing a product and was interested by the slightly polarised customer views on this webcam as it had come out well in review websites like Cnet and Trusted Reviews. So I felt I ought to share my experiences. I had previously owned a Creative NX Pro webcam I bought about 3 years ago and was disappointed with it. A friend of mine who is a technology correspondent for a major international newspaper told me that Logitech made the best cameras and I had also worked for Cisco from time to time and notice they use Logitech webcams also - rebranded Cisco, of course. The Creative webcam could never get the light right and I was always opening or closing the curtains in the background to try and adjust the light levels and in the end I just gave up. I found the Logitech camera easy to install. I am running a fairly ancient Dell Latitude D600 laptop with Windows XP and it was no problem. I decided to load all the software although you can opt for a custom install. I took the advice of several reviews and binned the enclosed disc and just dowloaded the latest software from the Logitech site. Very quick and easy. I notice several reviewers only loaded the drivers and that might be the best course of action for some people although there are some features you might miss which may prove useful. You can choose a custom install when you've downloaded the software which I presume gives you that option. The instructions advise you strongly not to plug the camera in until you've installed the software and when I plugged it in I was blown away with the quality. It was vastly superior to the Creative webcam I had previously owned. Interestingly they do a notebook version, but apart from the smaller size I can't see much point in getting it. The mounting clip is well designed and hooks on perfectly to the screen of my laptop. While all webcams have limitations due to frame rates I think anyone looking for a webcam would be well advised to take a serious look at this one. It's expensive as webcams go, but it's the old story - you pay for what you get. Buying a cheap £20 webcam is a false economy, especially if you use it to contact relatives abroad as you want the best possible picture.

This was the second time I had purchased this product, so that, in addition to my partner being able to use one with her laptop to talk to friends abroad (via Skype), I could use the other one with my desktop PC. As with the first product, this webcam provides excellent service and both the picture and sound qualities are excellent, whilst it is simplicity itself to install. The drawback, I found, however, was that it eats up so much of the memory on my PC and seriously slows down the latter's performance. After wrestling with this for a couple of weeks, I have now uninstalled the webcam and it is now just sitting uselessly on top of my PC, waiting for me to reinstall the software if I need to make a (pre-arranged) Skype call or until I buy a new PC (with a greatly expanded memory (even though my current PC is under three years old and had expanded memory installed upon purchase, as I work freelance and use my PC very much indeed every working day). Take care, therefore, when installing and watch your PC's subsequent performance very carefully if you purchase this product.
